Woodgate Statement

Classy of Woody to post a message like that. Compare and contrast with some of the glee on here at his ultimate failure.

I've barely seen any glee to be honest. I'd say the overwhelming sentiment has been one of relief that we now have a much better chance of staying in the league rather than sliding out of it with a whimper.

I doubt there is above a couple on here who will be 'happy' with Woodgates or any head coach/mangers failure. Those who predicted the failure, me included, would have loved it if woody stuck it right back at us. The problem was, he was indirectly set up to fail unfortunately, I hope he was well compensated all the same and most wish him well. Few blame him for trying. A lot blame the chairman for showing yet more lack of foresight in appointing him though.

Agree. He was the best appointment Gibson could make in the circumstances. In truth I wish he had acted during lockdown to give him time to assess the squad and work with them properly. I know we won at Charlton, but Southgate and Monk were relieved of their duties after wins by Gibson. However, the main thing is, he has acted. We have a chance now at least. Warnock has a huge job keeping us up, it will be one of his hardest roles mind as we have a tough run in, coupled with a group of players who may be less than committed.

I am sure the first thing he will do is speak with the squad and each player individually to determine who is and who isn’t up for the battle. I can see a few not being, in truth. The Neil Warnock I know will not pick a player, no matter the quality they have or the reputation they hold If he thinks they will only offer him 99%. He will get under their skins and in their heads and hopefully those that are willing to offer 100% will play. We might see an unusual team selection still, but it will be one with commitment and fight as opposed to one full of apathy and deckchair sitters.

I am so pleased but hope fans keep a lid on expectations as the squad contains a number of players who simply do not care beyond seeing their bank balance every week. He has a tough task, there are no guarantees. If he does not succeed, one thing I do know, is he will have shed blood sweat and tears in trying to work the miracle. If we go down, it will not be because Warnock has failed, it will be because of the mistakes of last summer.

I also know one thing, Stoke and Hull will be much more concerned than they were when they woke up this morning. Fingers crossed it has not been left too late.

He will quickly try to suss out who he can rely on and trust to do what he tells them. I think he will be great for players like Coulson and Spence, providing they listen and do as they are told. He is a strict disciplinarian and wont let anyone pull the wool over his eyes. I suspect that was part of the reason Woody was liked, he was imho maybe a bit too close with the players.

I think Tav will be his type of player, but only if he controls his enthusiasm. So long as players give everything, he will support them. He likes players to be physical and won’t tolerate players not tracking back. Roberts he will like, as he is not just a fancy dan type, he tracks back, tackles etc as well as getting at defences. Lets be honest though, there is only so much he can achieve in 8 games. He is not a magician, just an honest determined coach who has a knack of getting certain players to walk over hot coals for him. Wingy may need to up his game out of possession imho.

if we stay up, next season, If he stayed, that would be where we would see the squad and team really benefit imho. He is really good with knowing who to put an arm round and who to boot up the backside. He is the sort of manager that players can fall out with but nevertheless always respect and generally bust a gut for as they eventually realise he was right all along. The team will always come first. The team will attack and defend as a team within their units like under AK, I reckon. I expect we will be far more organised and game management to be handled better. I just hope he has enough time to sort the mess out, Gibson has left it late, fingers crossed he has the time. 10points needed for me as a minimum.
Good post Col 👍

We all wanted him to turn the poor squad around but it just didnt happen. Its a great shame this happens to one of our own... Nobody gives a fig about Monk or Strachen but there is a sad feeling about a Boro Lad been sacked , His statement is truly heartfelt and could have been bitter but I guess he knows he was limited. Thanks for the effort Jonno
