Woodgate Statement

We'll coluka, we got our wish in the end

It'll be interesting to see how Robbie Keane future in management pans out, another excellent footballer who the media spoke of as being a top manager in the making when we were in for him
Warnock has spoken in the past of how he wanted to work for Gibson & even mentioned he should have worked alongside Gareth to help him along, maybe so but for me you've either got it, or you haven't, Neil Warnock certainly does & I'm chuffed he's here

Agree. He was the best appointment Gibson could make in the circumstances. In truth I wish he had acted during lockdown to give him time to assess the squad and work with them properly. I know we won at Charlton, but Southgate and Monk were relieved of their duties after wins by Gibson. However, the main thing is, he has acted. We have a chance now at least. Warnock has a huge job keeping us up, it will be one of his hardest roles mind as we have a tough run in, coupled with a group of players who may be less than committed.

I am sure the first thing he will do is speak with the squad and each player individually to determine who is and who isn’t up for the battle. I can see a few not being, in truth. The Neil Warnock I know will not pick a player, no matter the quality they have or the reputation they hold If he thinks they will only offer him 99%. He will get under their skins and in their heads and hopefully those that are willing to offer 100% will play. We might see an unusual team selection still, but it will be one with commitment and fight as opposed to one full of apathy and deckchair sitters.

I am so pleased but hope fans keep a lid on expectations as the squad contains a number of players who simply do not care beyond seeing their bank balance every week. He has a tough task, there are no guarantees. If he does not succeed, one thing I do know, is he will have shed blood sweat and tears in trying to work the miracle. If we go down, it will not be because Warnock has failed, it will be because of the mistakes of last summer.

I also know one thing, Stoke and Hull will be much more concerned than they were when they woke up this morning. Fingers crossed it has not been left too late.

Well said

He knows we're in the clart financially, the point is he hasn't walked and forfeited the pay off, he has been sacked and will have been paid off for the remainder of his contract presumably at around the million pound mark. I would have had much more sympathy for him if he had walked away from the money like Strachan reportedly did when it wasn't working (the measure of the man as stated by Gibson at the time)

He’ll kill the apathy that’s for sure.

how do you see him using the likes of tav spence etc the flair Lacey fringe players

I never wanted him, always new this would happen, but had I have been offered the job I would have snapped the chairmans hand off too. All Woody is guilty of is living every schoolboys dream and many a grown mans for that matter too.
He tried his best, he came up short, he was maybe a little too easy going behind the scenes.

Best of look for the future Woody. I am sorry to say I think you were set up to fail in truth, I hope you succeed somewhere in the future.

That statement showed some real class to be fair (y) (anyone know who wrote it....... Joke :p)

Couldn’t have put it better. Never wanted him, but in my old fashioned way I tried to support him once he got the job. Not easy at all, in the end I was a bit surprised today, thought he’d get the season out of it. UTB (y)

He will quickly try to suss out who he can rely on and trust to do what he tells them. I think he will be great for players like Coulson and Spence, providing they listen and do as they are told. He is a strict disciplinarian and wont let anyone pull the wool over his eyes. I suspect that was part of the reason Woody was liked, he was imho maybe a bit too close with the players.

I think Tav will be his type of player, but only if he controls his enthusiasm. So long as players give everything, he will support them. He likes players to be physical and won’t tolerate players not tracking back. Roberts he will like, as he is not just a fancy dan type, he tracks back, tackles etc as well as getting at defences. Lets be honest though, there is only so much he can achieve in 8 games. He is not a magician, just an honest determined coach who has a knack of getting certain players to walk over hot coals for him. Wingy may need to up his game out of possession imho.

if we stay up, next season, If he stayed, that would be where we would see the squad and team really benefit imho. He is really good with knowing who to put an arm round and who to boot up the backside. He is the sort of manager that players can fall out with but nevertheless always respect and generally bust a gut for as they eventually realise he was right all along. The team will always come first. The team will attack and defend as a team within their units like under AK, I reckon. I expect we will be far more organised and game management to be handled better. I just hope he has enough time to sort the mess out, Gibson has left it late, fingers crossed he has the time. 10points needed for me as a minimum.

Looking at Woodgate's body language on Saturday, do you think he knew this was coming? Like Gibbo had a word that he had a last chance, if we're poor I've got Warnock lined up. Hence the insane team selection as an all in 5h1t or bust, once the car crash unfolded he knew he was done?

Just looking at the players smiling in the photos tells you everything you need to know.

This will hopefully give them a massive lift, a sense of direction and an idea what they are meant to be doing. Also, he might play Howson in midfield.

Keane on his insta has said he opted to leave as his contract was up at end of the month anyway. Interesting.

It would not surprise me to see someone take a punt on Keane as manager and Woody become his number 2.

I know there are some stupid people in football clubs but you'd have to be off your head to think Keane and Woodgate would be anything other than an unmitigated disaster.

A simple I was never going to turn down the offer to manage the club but realise it was too soon and I was out of my depth would have sufficed. The reason he couldn’t say that however is because anybody in that position that had the clubs interests at heart would have fell on their sword months ago. If Strachen of all people could admit he wasn't up to the job I’m pretty sure Woodgate could. Always feel sorry for any bloke in any walk of life who loses his job but he is a very rich man who won’t be worried about paying this months mortgage tonight. Hopefully he will leave Boro completely dust him self off an d try and join a club with a really good young coach at the helm who he can learn from for a couple of years before taking a lower leauge job.

Thrown under the bus wasn’t he - wrong appointment when we needed some hope. I don’t know if Warnock is right for us but if he keeps us up it’ll do for starters. Who ever is made permanent next, this time it needs to be very carefully thought out - no more jobs for the boys or yes men !
