Biden is at least a safe pair hands until he crocks it in post and then up steps Camilla Harris who will be good 👍

Michelle Obama, maybe?

Democrats are not going to vote Trump regardless, and perhaps a black woman would bring some of the minority votes to the Democrats?

Michelle Obama would probably be the best choice against Trump but she has next to no experience in politics (although honestly, neither does Trump.)

The problem is if it starts to look serious then you're also fighting against momentum, and it could end up too little too late.

I think it's already serious, they're going to need a new contender sorting in the next few months as if they leave it less than 6 months they won't have much time to swing it back.

To be fair she was Obama's wife though, obviously, so I think she would be up to speed, and have a fair idea how it all works, a lot more than the average person or even most politicians who don't have much time in the job, or at a high level.

Also, there was a post saying that she had more or less said she would run if necessary, whereas I'm not aware that she's ever said that.

How does it work in the US if the President has to step down mid term - does the VP just get sworn in? And why is Harris so unpopular?

The thought of Trump returning is scary - going to be a long 4 year purge of everyone that has gone against him......proper dictator style. And the country will be even more fractured. Grim.

Firstly yes, the VP takes over. Article II, Section 1, Clause 6 of the US Constitution stipulates that the vice president takes over the "powers and duties" of the presidency in the event of a president's removal, death, resignation, or inability.

As to why Harris is unpopular, well the article below gives a number of factors.

I agree with your assessment of what will happen if Trump gets in. He's already made it clear what he plans to do if he gets to be president again.
