Serious foul play for me, which is a red card offence.
"Any player who lunges at an opponent in challenging for the ball from the front, from the side or from behind using one or both legs, with excessive force or endangers the safety of an opponent is guilty of serious foul play."
To my knowledge the rule was changed a couple of years ago and I'm struggling to think of a tackle of this kind since which hasn't resulted in a sending off. Pretty sure there were a couple of high profile examples in the PL earlier this season?
Excessive force would appear to be the mitigating factor but watching it back in real time McNair fairly flies in.
