Will McNair get that red rescinded?

Serious foul play for me, which is a red card offence.

"Any player who lunges at an opponent in challenging for the ball from the front, from the side or from behind using one or both legs, with excessive force or endangers the safety of an opponent is guilty of serious foul play."

To my knowledge the rule was changed a couple of years ago and I'm struggling to think of a tackle of this kind since which hasn't resulted in a sending off. Pretty sure there were a couple of high profile examples in the PL earlier this season?

Excessive force would appear to be the mitigating factor but watching it back in real time McNair fairly flies in.

If not, that could be our season done. We're not great or bad as a team, but he's our best player by far, so 3 games missing will be massive for us

I don't think he is our best player, and certainly not 'by far'. But Fry, Paddy and Tav missing at the same time is too much for this team.

I honestly thought it was a great tackle, as did the Sky Commentary team.
Fry is kicked fully in the head at 6 foot 4 and gets nothing.
No wonder officials are not respected.

Having seen some of the images since the game as much as I think it’s harsh there is no way they will rescind it in my opinion. Hope I’m wrong. Sounds like Fry may be ready to start so imagine he will slot in but we do lose something with McNairs ability to bring the ball out. Thought he was class last night.

Fortunatley they won't use images, but real time and slowed down footage. I'll be surprised if it isn't overturned. We've had quite a few overturned in recent years for much worse than this.

There were many superb tackles the best tackler I ever saw, Bobby Moore, made which would nowadays be called fouls and even get a red card.

Of course, I suppose that's more off the ball incidents though, rather than someone getting their face kicked off in front of the ref and ball

We have a good record at having reds rescinded to be fair. I remember Adama being rightly sent off at Sunderland and had it overturned. Ayala was sent off for a two footed horror challenge and had that overturned.
Mcnair’s was an obvious red as well but you never know.

Mido v Arsenal and Aliadiere v Liverpool were never reds imho. The Aliadiere was even extended to 4 games on appeal because the appeal was deemed to be 'frivolous'.

I thought the Gestede one at Norwich(?) was fair enough as well, but that got struck off. I wonder if Stuart Ripley is on all these panels.

There was something funny about that Aliadiere incident, it was such a ‘nothing’ event that it was embarrassing for all parties involved including the ref and the FA.
