Bamford gets to balls that few other players would. That's why he gets so many chances.I reckon if you put Watkins in that Leeds team, with the amount of chances Leeds create, Watkins would have more goals than Bamford.
Bamford misses a lot of good chances. It's his work off the ball that I think Bielsa likes.
I don't think I'd be confident of Bamford going through 1v1 to score a goal in a KO game to send us into the next round...
Much rather have Ings, Callum Wilson....or even try and drag Vardy out of retirement before we include Bamford in the squad.
I tend to agree he makes defenders make mistakes at times and that's where some of his chances come from.Bamford gets to balls that few other players would. That's why he gets so many chances.
Same here. Great to see a striker with good movement putting defenders under pressure.I tend to agree he makes defenders make mistakes at times and that's where some of his chances come from.
But this season, the amount of the sitters he's missed is astonishing.
Don't get me wrong, I'd rather my striker be getting into those positions to miss, than not get a chance at all....but for England and at International level, you need striker to get into those positions and score more often than not.
He's had a great season nonetheless, especially for his first full season in the Premier League.
My thoughts on the squad:
- Are we really that desperate for CBs that Dier is still in the squad? It's the major weakness in our squad
- I like that we are now getting youth into the FB positions, it looks bright with Saka and Reece James in the squad after a couple of years looking a little dodgy at FB
- Jesse Lingard, that's a backwards step
- great to see Belligham in
- Watkins probably deserves a chance, I think this is a settling in season for him, next year is the big one where he will either become a top player or drift.
And BarnesI don't Lingard would be in the squad if Maddison and Graelish were fit.
I would like to see him given a fair chance. The midfield possibilities from English players having a good season suggest that he'd have better service than he does at Leeds.
Agreed, although I think he might end up more as an Ashley Cole type FB, too much competition on the wings for himSaka is being used more as a winger at Arsenal now, isn't he? He's listed in the England squad list as one too.

Not so sure, seen Watkins miss lots of chances too. I would think BAmford will end his career with more goals than WatkinsI reckon if you put Watkins in that Leeds team, with the amount of chances Leeds create, Watkins would have more goals than Bamford.

Sancho, Sterling, Greenwood, Grealish, Mount, Foden?Think Vardy might be coming towards the end of his lethal-ness now as he’s picking up a few concurrent injuries.
Danny Ings was ahead of Bamford for me recently but he’s tailed off massively along with Southampton’s form.
For me it’s:
Kane
Rashford
Calvert Lewin
Bamford (if we need a 4th which I’m not sure we will)
It's quite weird to see an England team with so many options. Jaw dropped a bit when I saw he'd dropped the world's best right back who's apparently now fourth choice (though if Trent needs anything, it's a rest, though I don't understand why Gareth is then talking tough to the cameras and challenging him to raise his level!)
Yeah mine were just the out and out striker options, those you mention I can never tell if they class as forwards or midfielders these days.Sancho, Sterling, Greenwood, Grealish, Mount, Foden?
So many options for forwards. I know yours is a list of proper number 9s and most of the others can play anywhere else across the front 3 (I'd put Rashford in that category), or as number 10s.
I reckon for games he'll go Kane, DCL as backup, and Pep-ball if anything happens to both of them. Bamford has a chance like as he can play that central role and is intelligent, but international level might be a bit much for him. Greenwood's class and a lethal natural two-footed finisher, he can play central.

Seems crazy to me. There's no-one in world football I'd have over Trent Alexander-Arnold. Even if you include left backs it's between him and young Alphonse at Bayern, but TAA is also lethal at set pieces.I don't think it's that surprising.
He's been really poor this season and has never played particularly well for England, he's also never been first choice for England.
Walker is the main right back for the runaway league leaders in England and an England regular.
Trippier is the main right back for the league leaders in Spain and an England regular.
Reece James is the main right back for a team above Liverpool and is currently playing better than Alexander-Arnold, I expect he's a distant 3rd choice though.
I think the real surprise is Reece James getting picked over Wan Bissaka, who's playing well at United, unless Wan Bissaka has made it clear he's switching to DR Congo.
