Wilder...with hindsight

Is this the same Chris Wilder who was Superman a couple of weeks ago ? Shows how fickle football fans are.
When he was here for the long term and believed our players could turn over Man Utd, Spurs & Chelsea…

Now he’s not sure what the future holds and we don’t have the players to go up against Hull or Huddersfield! There’s holes in the squad and the players aren’t good enough.

That Weghorst would score for fun in line the Championship. Sure I read some free that Only Lewandowski has scored more than him in the Bundesliga over the past 5 seasons.
Indeed. So has Pukki every time he has been in too, and Watford are always strong.

What we can assume were his 2 choice of strike reinforcements have not improved us 1 jot, possibly weakened us?

His decision to not replace Lumley (seems a good bloke, bang average champo keeper) has undoubtedly cost us points.

Not bringing Spence back, even under duress, could be consider an error. Should he have trusted his man management skills more?

3 big decisions. All have cost us.

Yes, we play better than under Warnock. But, that isn't hard. Massively reliant on a young wizard on the wing, no plan B, powder puff attack of his choosing.

He has got quite a lot wrong.

Spence would have been unhappy and we would be getting nowhere near our estimated fee if he was sat on our bench.

Balogun is better than any of our forwards

Lumley isn't even bang average Championship standard, he's 27 years old and has had one season as first choice keeper.

I was happy with the Connolly signing, although only on reputation. I'd have hoped our scouts had at least seen him play. It's only since watching him play regularly that I realised he's never going to make it at a decent level. He has no stand out qualities.

Balogun I knew was a risk but one I hoped would pay off. He's only played against kids and scored goals for fun. Stepping up to playing with men has been his issue but I think there is a player in there. He's the one that I think had he been given a start every week would be our best chance of success.

McGree looks good technically but he has been injured most of the time so hasn't had a run yet. Too early to tell how he will turn out but there is some promise there.

Uche leaving was the right decision. He's not a bad player but can't play the pressing game our forwards have to be able to play. I assumed we had replacements that would be better but obviously that's not worked out so questions being asked about his leaving is fair.

Hernandez is similar. In hindsight he might have been a better bet than what we've replaced him with but replacing him with someone that can play the position better was the logical decision.

Spence was a non-starter. Doesn't want to be here. We'll get more money for him from his staying at Forest than if he had come back and we'd tried to force him into the team where his best position is the same as our best player so one of them wouldn't be playing in the right place so would probably be benched.

Nobody had him as Superman.
He himself picked up and mentioned he was here to build the club for the medium to long term, said it might take him 3 years, he said the club was together, fans, players, management and he was proud of the direction and momentum.

About a month later and twice he fails to shut down speculation when he had the opportunity to do so. Fans have every right to be upset. This comes out at the same time the wheels start coming off has more than a whiff about it. Players will know something is not right. Something behind the scenes seems very wrong. Manager unsettled, players suddenly lack confidence and belief. It might be internal factors that he is not happy with, it may be he’s been tapped up, who knows, it’ll come out soon enough, but whatever the issue, it needs resolving immediately one way or another.

Burnley are no pull for an ambitious man, they are potentially a managers graveyard. New owners have bought the club on a high debt to service that means relegation would be disastrous, parachute payments servicing an alleged 12% interest on debt, players sold. Helluva risk for a club with 20K fans a game on a good day. Everton or a Villa even Leeds type club doesn’t have an obvious ceiling, I’d understand that. Burnley has a low achievement ceiling and we have a far higher potential than Burnley ever will have, for someone who can get it right. 6 months for it to be like this is ridiculous. I still hope he stays, but trust is a 2 way switch and bridges need rebuilding if he does, Gibson will be on this now though and will do the right thing for the club.

It's simple....he came in and turned our squad Into a team of winners...for a while...we loved it ..we love him....I hope this is all bullsh#t and that wilder stays and builds an empire over the summer.
If he goes them it just Indicates that something has gone wrong and so we need it fixing....
Either way I love wilder....and gibbo...and the boro....and the boro is the biggest of all those entities.. and always will be

Did he though?

That’s Warnock without Dijksteel, Fry, Bola, Taylor, McGree, Boyd-Munce, Connolly & Balogun. He broke Isaiah Jones into the team and at right wing back, he broke Coburn into the team.. Tav rocking the left side of midfield he found out Joe Lumley.

What has Chris Wilder done?

They CURRENTLY are. They may not be soon Relegation sees them in bother

There could be an opportunity to keep them in the prem.. Everton’s run in is dreadful!

Then there’s the parachute payments..

We join our story at an interesting point, a group of adolescents find out that "the love of their life" is looking at others over the fence. They may be thinking of ditching them so start to come up with reasons why the LOTL never was all that...

Stay tuned. Was it all a nasty rumour? Is it true? If they stay can they ever be trusted again? If they go will we ever love again? Then there's the old LOTL who may still be available!

Ifs, buts and maybe’s. Have you read the article? They only put £15M in to buy the club. The rest is debt at up to 12% interest. The business model gets blown out of the water. Relegation means paying a £60M loan early too. Parachute payments would be servicing debts not all on players. Look at what happened with us, Stoke, Cardiff, WBA. Their purchased the club on 85% debt roughly on ridiculously high rates and we all know interest rates are going one way at present. Relegation really would be a disaster. Wilder would be taking a huge gamble, if relegated, they may well be a selling club to keep afloat.

Chris Wilder - 7th November.. joins boro

6th April 0-1 Fulham

9th April 0-1 Hull

15th April 0-0 Bournemouth

“It claims the terms of the loan from MSD UK Holdings mean that relegation would trigger early repayment of a £60m loan”

MSD sounds familiar.. are they anything to do with Derby?

Of course he has made errors. He is trying to change the tyre while we are hurtling down the motorway. He still has a decent record with us, but there is scope for improvement.

You can't really judge the man until he has had a full summer in charge, a proper transfer window, and a proper pre-season to prepare the team.

seems to be a common theme this kind of deal. It's being reported that Derby did the same and owe Michael Dell 60m this summer now that they are relegated.

This kind of loan seems like the next big football bubble that could go pop
