Wilder Rumours

Do you know something?
I was told by two good sources that this was the case.. one also told me we'd been talking to Gareth Southgate regarding the new manager.. I laughed that one off.. but obviously got the wrong end of the stick!

Bumped into a journalist that I know but haven’t seen for year or so today.
He is good friends with a player who has recently left the club.

When Wilder was linked with Burnley, he told the players, as soon as the offer comes in for me, I’m off to Burnley.
Makes sense why they downed tools for him then. But why on Earth would he do that without a concrete offer? If true, and people who exist in genuine football circles will know, he’s made himself virtually unemployable.

This was before the Huddersfield home game last season.

It was obvious in that game the players heads had gone, I think Bola and someone else were screaming at eachother at one point.

The ex-player that told me still has ties to the club and doesn't usually say much, but when he does it's usually bang on.

At that time Wilder was said to be openly slating the hierarchy of the club having let him down in January over potential signings.

Not long after that game there were clear the air talks between Gibson and Wilder.
While some people will say “it’s Scott’s/Gibson’s fault then” it is absolutely ridiculous that he would say that to the players.

NDA makes sense too, as clearly they don’t want him denigrating the club’s new recruitment model anymore than he wants the club making known how unprofessional he is when he doesn’t get his own way.

I can only assume his ego got in the way. He must have thought it was a cert they’d be in for him. Idiot.

The players couldn’t believe what was happening.

I think Wilders reputation has been significantly damaged by his time here, as it was from his period at Sheff Utd.

In combination, I think he will struggle to get a job that's at the level of Boro, never mind a PL team, even one that's struggling like Burnley were.

I'll look back on his time here in a mostly negative way and I think there's a very much mixed view of him by Sheff Utd fans and he achieved far more there than he did he, plus he's a Utd fan, which speaks volumes for me.

His last season at Sheff Utd and his tenure at Boro have been (a few games aside) pretty horrible.

His 3-5-2 system has been sussed, won't change/can't change and his stock has definitely been damaged.

Scott's comments about him not wanting to commit to the clubs new recruitment strategy is also pretty damning - old skool total control manager may put a lot of forward thinking clubs off.

He's a lot better in his own head than in reality that's for sure.

I also found him difficult to warm to, he seemed an abrasive character and dare I say a bit thick!

I know that results are king of course, but as a person he presented an entirely different character than Carrick, who seems a much more measured, humble and intelligent man.

There have been some right stinkers of managers appointed since Karanka, none of whom I’ve really warmed to. I thought Chris Wilder might be the exception but he’s proven himself to be just as stubborn as Pulis and as self promoting as Warnock.

My fear is that Michael Carrick, who is patently a different kettle of fish, will do an excellent job and then be whisked away by the big bucks of a Premier club or international side.
