Wilder. I’m very sceptical.

Suggesting his 'tactics have been found out' is nonsense really

His tactics WERE sussed out though. You could see that by watching us.

We only attacked one way - by moving the ball side to side trying to create an overload out wide with the wing back, centre mid and overlapping centre back.

We never attacked through the middle of the pitch. So opposition teams knew they just had to double up out wide to nullify us.

Both times he’s had a team in the same division more than one season, the results have fallen off a cliff.

You think wilder is tactically inept?

If not inept, then limited and stubborn certainly.

The whole “overlapping centre backs” system was actually from Alan Knill, and Wilder failed to see when it had been nullified in a game. His response generally was to wait til the last 15 mins then throw 5 forwards on the pitch.

Why did he never try a back 4? Why did he never try Chuba as a 10 in a 4231? Why didn’t he never try McGree with a free role out wide?

I was pointing out that the inept part was incorrect by the op.

Your last part you could say about any manager at some point in their career

Nah, don't agree at all.

I think his preferred style is very rigid for sure and he wants symmetry on both sides of the pitch (hence he wanted the much feited left footed CB), but in any system its only as strong as the players within it and if they aren't fully invested in it/the manager, then it isn't going to work.

All systems have strengths and weaknesses, Wilders was no different. It's not as if it was a system that was hugely revolutionary, because it wasn't and plenty of teams still play in broadly the same way.

The problem was him.
