Wigan in admin

I thought Whelan had not long sold them to some foreign investor? Suggests that they were going to struggle to pay the latest round of salaries. A twelve point deduction is automatic isn't it?

Wigan losing points is wrong, IMHO
Derby & Sheff Weds is another matter, they knew what the rules were & thinking we'll be fine, we're only cheating a tiny bit was again, totally wrong

And if the EFL decide to penalise the clubs next year because of the pandemic is way out of order, clubs who lived by the rules fought to stay in the league & some failed coukd be down in that league for a number of years, teams who didn't can live to fight another day

I'm afraid the seesaw will tip shortly, with lots of teams hitting the ground with a bump, lots of inner city grounds to be swept away by property developers as the economy heads south and land is cheap. Sad to see another northern team in trouble

That’s a good point well made Erimus. But I think this is something to do with the new owners that came in on the 4th of last month. And if they aren’t fit and proper and has resulted in administration then a points deduction justified in my opinion. Feel for the coaching team players and fans though. Not their fault.

I think clubs going into Administration should be closely assessed as to why. If the pandemic has pushed them over the edge then leniency should be applied. I am sure common sense and fairness will be applied on this one. We need to understand the reasons. Terrible for their fans

That’s a good angle on their specific case . Hope I’m wrong but there’s going to be quite a few to follow

I have always liked Wigan and enjoyed my days out there. I wonder if Whelan, at the age of 83, would fancy buying them back.

Sheff Wed players are also owed some of their wages. This could be a crazy summer for football.

Whelan on talksport now flabbergasted ( appears he had no idea ) and stating he WILL help

If Wigan don't have the points deducted then it might encourage other clubs to go into administration now to save themselves from a points deduction I future.

Will depend on the wording of the rules but they seem pretty unequivocal that a 12 point deduction will be enforced.

Shocked about that...
I would take their striker Kiefer Moore, underrated player. Target man who can also play a bit on the deck. Would give us another option up top...

Spot on there Os!(y)

In an Eric Cantonesque fashion “ lets watch the seagulls following the trawler “ good team picked to bits

The deduction of points this season is if you go into admin by the end of March. After that it is the next season that points are deducted.
Dont know what difference the suspension of the league will make.
I would be surprised if Wigan dont know that they will be safe from deduction this season.

Feel for their fans, but I don't see how a points deduction can be avoided. The rules are pretty clear and intended to stop what is essentially cheating by racking up debts to improve your performance, which you never intend to pay back.
