Why is David Moyes next favourite for the sack?

Is 8th place (on the back of silverware) last season not good enough for the mighty West Ham? I'm baffled by this. Frank Lampard is available I guess.

Seems like a tough gig, can't see Carrick being tempted by that one.

Poisoned chalice is West Ham.

They’ve had a few injuries to key players
Utterly crazy if they get rid of moyes. Best thing that’s ever happened to the hammers

I think it's a combination of things - his age, out of contract in the summer, style of play - Mourinho/Conte/Pulis like - defend with a lot of men behind the ball and then rely on a breakaway and primarily Bowen having a good game. I guess this doesn't fit the modern style where teams like to have more of the ball and be on the 'front' foot. It could go wrong but I guess the fans are a bit sick of his style of football, especially when the results have been a bit poor recently. We had the same to a lesser extent under McClaren - even after he won the Carling cup with us. European results papered over the cracks in our league campaign.

Year ends in 1 etc
They tend to be fairly self depreciating and see stuff like their application to join the super league as ridiculous as it was. I think the hubris from spurs comes from the chairman rather than the fans.
West Ham on the other hand were invading the pitch a couple of seasons ago because the team wasn't performing to their over expectations.

The comparison with both falls down when you look at actual achievements however as both have won trophies within living memory.

Its a good point, in the February of 2006 large sections of our support turned on McClaren and I remember the chant for that fledgling Hibs manager Anthony Mark Mowbray to take over. Shortly after we're safe from relegation, battering champions Chelsea and on our way to Eindhoven. We even won at the Etihad!

I suppose style and 'fit' are often more important than actual success! Maybe its not just West Ham.

Everyone wants progress. West Ham think they are being overtaken by Villa, Newcastle, Brighton etc. All those teams want to be best of the rest and pushing for the CL.

I have always said that if a manager plays boring/effective football then fans are happy when results are going their way but quickly turn when results aren't. It's hard to defend negative football when you are chasing a game. Karanka had it in the PL, Mourinho had it everywhere he's been, Pulis got us to the playoffs but we were still desperate to see the back of him etc.

You'll never satisfy all the fans. There will always be some that think things should be better even when it's going well. I don't know many City fans so I don't know if they complain about Pep ever but I remember hearing some negativity about him when they lost the CL final to Chelsea because they went with a bizarre team selection.

Two West Ham writers were on the Athletic podcast yesterday and both said Moyes should be given a new contract. They both said Moyes had given them consistency, solidity and three years of European football and deserves more respect. I agree with them.

The issue is actually to do with a lot of journalists looking for content and using social media and post-match phone-ins as research. It’s like this board. It’s not really a reflection of how the supporter base feels as a whole, more just the people who are bothered enough to read and talk about it online.

Incidentally, one of those writers said if Moyes does go in the summer then he would like Michael Carrick to replace him because he is doing well at Boro and develops young players - which is something used against Moyes, who won’t use some of West Ham’s FA Youth Cup-winning team, even in an injury crisis.

So maybe to the outsider, what’s going on at Boro isn’t as bad as some on here would have you believe.

All the more reason to give DM a 12 month extension and then poach MC next summer for free I guess.

Hodgson has been treated appallingly by Crystal Palace imo. Unless he’s been ‘holding the fort’ while the owners look for a new manager, which seems unlikely but you never know.
