Why haven't the club publicly condemned the riots?

I mean this didn't come across as odd to me....

You're right, it doesn't come across as odd at all and credit to Sunderland for doing it.

But equally it doesn't actually add anything to the debate, repair windows or fix dents in cars.

I think we can take it as read that the club dont condone the actions, and so a statement is pretty irrelevant.

It might dissuade young, impressionable teens who get caught up in this, whilst reinforcing a message of hope. You're right it's not going to fix the physical damage but that's not the point. I generally don't see it as a token gesture.

In fact messages from football clubs on issues like this are probably much more effective at cutting through to the people who need to take the advice on board, rather than lectures from politicians etc.

I have a feeling with a home game this Saturday the club will see their opportunity to announce audibly & in the programme to a full house - as being a more authoritative statement..

They will probably release a statement once the dust settles. I don't think they need to as it will only be the standard statement of condemning the violence/Racism, but people will still no doubt pick holes in it.
Id personally rather they did their stuff when people start getting charged, by banning them from any Middlesbrough games for life.
You cant trash your town, ruin your fellow communities lives and say you support Middlesbrough. It isn't just a football club.

The club, I would hope, would want anyone to come to support the team to enjoy themselves in a safe environment.

It looks like some of the racists are happy to be racist and violent whilst having visible evidence of supporting the club on display.

It would be a good thing, in my view, to support those non whites who want to come to the game by the club assuring them they will do their utmost to work with the police, identify them and ban the racists.

If you say you stand as a club against racism, it’s best to behave like one.

So the people taking part in far right marches, are they welcome in the Riverside next season or not?
