Why has M&S struggled in the last 20 years?

Spot on 1finny in my view.
M&S offer premium priced food; parts of their range are more recently at reduced premium and hence seen as more competitively priced.
I perceive their quality to be higher and am prepared to pay a premium for that; but not without limit, as I will not then perceive I am getting value.
Other people's perception of quality and value will be different.

The market share figures however indicate there are lots of supportive shoppers.
I think there would be an awful lot more if their food was more easily available than it is.

Good luck 1finny with Co-op. Very difficult to try and be available, appealing, competitive, provide "value"and make money across so many things to so many people in so many different locations that restrict efficiencies.
I like the Co-op, just don't like your End Fees / promotion structure.
