Why Carrick needs to change a winning team on Wednesday

So far Carrick tends to keep with a winning team: understandable, but let's be clear, we were pretty poor yesterday and not great against Sheff Wed. We rode our luck against Saints too. Dependable as Howson is at CB, I think we need him back in the middle against Hull, to give us that control. and put Rav back in. I'd also be tempted to put Engel in, as I think Thomas may get roasted against Carvalho/Philogene (although Engel's hardly rock solid either!).

After being really unlucky against Leeds, Hull have just secured their first win in ages and will fly into the game at home. We need to control the middle of the park, and we need our best players on the pitch. I'd be tempted to put Hackney straight back in for the same reason. Norwich may well drop points at Wednesday and if we could secure 3 points at Hull, we'd be right back in it.

I would be tempted to go to the wing back formation, with 3 CB’s on Wednesday.

I don’t think he will change much though your right.
It's an option, with Rav back and Howson slotting in. Means probably Greenwood or Azaz making way in a 5-2-3 (or 3-4-3) - Hull looked very slick in the highlights. The young loan talent they have - with Morton, Philogene, Carvalho - reminds me of us with Archer and Ramsey last season. Seri and Tufan are good players too. They had Zaroury (outstanding for Burnley last year) on the bench! The more I think about it, the more I'm a little bit envious of the squad they have available, but I'm just telling myself we hammered them 1-2 back in the winter!

Do we try and soak up pressure with a back 5 or seek to dominate the game in the midfield (the worry being their speedy players pick us off on the counter)?

If either are fit Hackney and Van Den Bergh will hopefully come in
I was glad they got left on the bench when the match was won - and gave cameos to Silvera/Finch/Dijksteel/Gilbert to keep them involved with the team

Van Den Bergh could come in for Barlaser - with Howson pushing into midfield
Or Hackney for Barlaser

If both are ready I'd hope to see them in for Barlaser and O'Brien - with Howson moving forward into midfield

Phologene isn’t on loan - they paid £5m for him

If everyone is somewhat fit - I'd be tempted to bring VDB in for Ayling. Play a 3 of Howson, VDB and Clark with Jones as a WB. A bit harsh on Ayling, but I think Jones is best as a wb

If Hackney is fit I would bring him in for Greenwood. A 3 of Barlaser deep and Obrien/Hackney pushing on could be good. (I'd be tempted to bring Silvera in alongside Lath in this formation).

I would also be happy with keeping the same team!

If VDB and Hackney are fit they have to start. I'd switch to wing-backs.

At some point I suppose he's going to have to think about the Leeds game where Ayling and Greenwood will be unavailable. Does he keep them in the team until then and make those 2 changes for Leeds or does he give their replacements some game time v Hull and/or Ipswich ?

Was just thinking about that on the way home yesterday - who comes in for them 2 against Leeds - and do come in just for that game, or before?

Definitely agree Rav should come if fit and move Howson back into midfield, but would not drop O'Brien think he starting to look really good now, keep Hackney as an option of the bench if we need to change things up, would not rush him in just yet

No Jones?

Ah sorry, didn't clock it. So dropping Ayling. Personally be more inclined to keep him, push Jonesy forward and drop Greenwood. But then I have a probably-too-intense dislike of Greenwood.
I'd be happy with that in fairness.

Luke Thomas and Barlaser out
Hayden Hackney and RVB in for me
O Brien replaces Thomas
Hackney replaces O Brien
RVB replaces Howson
Howson replaces Badpasser
