Why are we so disliked by other fans

So twitter doesn't like us.
Look north always put us on last
The referees are all biased against us
People should be praising us for going out of business.
We should be namechecked everytime Brazil are mentioned.
And we should be name checked every time someone talks about clubs in Europe.

Infamy! Infamy! They've all got it infamy!

Most fans I come across usually have a soft spot for us due the juninho, rav years.

Of course, there's always someone who has a grudge against us for something or other, but then that's fans for you.

I couldn't care less what an average 25 yr old, 65 yr old or any other age person knows about our history to be honest. Unless it pops up in conversation with them of course, then they'll be told 🙂That's not what I was saying.

I just thought you were downplaying what happened to us in 1986 and the years following.
Anyway, I'm off to read Doom to Boom again 👍
I wasn’t downplaying it. It was an incredibly important/special time in the history of our football club.

I just don’t think other fans from other clubs actually would be remotely interested in the fact that we paid back 100p in the pound 40 years later, or tripled our gates in ten years, so it wasn’t “special” in that sense. It’s not an unrivalled footballing story that fans around the world want to hear.

Jedi made the point that we shouldn’t be disliked because of the way we came back from oblivion, but I just don’t think anyone else cares about it. Or us in general tbh, and it doesn’t really bother me.

Worked in Manchester for 23 years, met and worked with a lot of supporters of other teams. Can't remember one being anything other than "meh" towards Boro.

Even most sensible (😳) mackems/geordies aren't particularly bothered about us.

Think there are only Darlo and Hartlepool who genuinely don't like us 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

1986 - virtually no-one outside of the region knows about us nearly going bump. Tell the story and people are genuinely surprised.

That’s not what I said at all I said within the media ( not other fans) we are not given the recognition for that in the way other teams are.

This was basically what I was trying to say. Our story may be “special” but no one even remembers (or ever knew) it had even happened.
Strange timing, but was speaking to an Evertonian last night and he asked is Gibson still chairman and he's been there a pretty long time. Told the résumé from 1986 and got the "you nearly went bump??" reaction.

Think so many clubs have actually hit the wall recently it's just consigned to local history.

I've lived away from the area since I was 19 and I've honestly never met any other football fan who hated the Boro. The usual response is a bit of gentle p***-taking.

Football fans actually tend to have a lot more respect for fans of a "proper" team like the Boro, even if they are sometimes a bit rubbish, than they do for the hordes of glory hunters that follow the teams from London and the North West.

Irony of the last is your brother could have been mugged by a Bristol Rovers fan, in which case it would perversely cause you to quite like Bristol City at his expense? No way of knowing I guess.
This is true although I'm guessing it's more likely that they were just smackheads with no real interest in football.

Still tarnished a good weekend away and left a spur taste about Bristol

I don’t dislike Reading but I do hate their stadium.

Awful location, plus on one visit I saw a Boro fan kicking the absolute **** out of another Boro fan just in the concourse. Wasn’t nice at all.

I once knew a Crystal Palace fan who hated us..
Never let on why though. Just said that "I *acking hate Barra"
Probably when they put a pill out on talk sport before and we were deemed a bigger club than a palace and that karanka would not go there. Weird club palace, bar a ten year spell they’ve been pretty insignificant and even now they just make the numbers up.

I think you’re overanalysing. A few fans have reacted with a yer jokin’ aren’t you to a suggestion those four “belong” in the premier league. Without our Boro bias we’d do the same. We’d be saying only one had any history, but that was mostly a century ago, and the other three “boast” three league cups between them.

Is the Premier league worse off for the lack of Oxford or Swindon, a couple of others on the “one league cup” list? No. Am I showing an irrational hate of Oxford or Swindon in saying that? Am I bollix.
We are a tier above swansea and stoke and I think most would see it that way. You can’t compare us to Oxford

Nah ,This was mid 90s

I find the ones that tend to dislike us are ones that consider themselves similar like WBA, Sheffield United, Palace, Derby. Stoke. Well fans of the bigger teams tend to say more complimentary things like Boro - proper football club with passionate fans, except in 1996 when we did threaten to compete with them for 12 months.
