Why are we so disliked by other fans

It's mostly Sunderland fans and fans suggesting their own clubs, isn't it?

Plus one random foreign Man City superfan.

It's in the eye of the beholder is it not.
We were hugely popular home and abroad back in the days of our European adventures.

Was in Italy recently and had a few interesting bar conversations with locals. Including a Roma fan who desperately wanted us to best Sevilla in that final.

And as posted. There are many fans who regard us as a proper club.

Most fans genuinely don't care about us. We used to be in the PL and competed for a few trophies, now we're not. Other fans will always put you down/wind you up occasionally.

How much do you care about Stoke City? Thats how much most fans care about us.

Thats why its so funny when the Mackems/Geordies claim they don't care. They care far more than most and its really obvious.

A few years back I overheard 2 blokes chatting about why they disliked us so much, it was in a Wetherspoons not too far from Loftus Road. The crux of the matter seemed to be the distance involved and difficulty they had getting to the town and the time they had to set off in a morning and lateness in getting home. I couldn’t help myself saying it was no different for Boro fans on their travels today.

The funniest thing was then said back to me was………. that it was far easier coming backwards and forwards to London from up North than it was the other way round 🤷‍♂️ At that point I needed another drink. They genuinely didn’t realise how stupid the comment was. 🤣

It’s just random fans of other clubs but they always seem to have a dig at us snd it’s not just this thread either.

because some run with the hare and hunt with the hounds.

our own so called 'fans' dont give us any credit from coming back from oblivion - theyre after hanging Gibson and throwing his influence into the sea and dirt. - its all in the annals of history on here

you cant fool proper football fans.

2 faced and delusions of grandeur runs amok amongst some.

Every team is hated by someone, I wouldn’t get worked up by an anonymous glory supporter on twitter.
I get that but I’m talking about a wider debate ( I’m using that Twitter post just as an example) we do seem to be an easy target is my point.

A coluka says though most team have a reason to dislike x or y club but we just seem to get lumped in to things without any rationale.

Classic example listening to the radio talking about brighton in europe and they mentioned Stoke and Fulham and Burnley etc all being in europe never mentioned us.

I’ve mentioned this before but world soccer wrote an article about the history of Brazilians in the prem league snd never mentioned us at all not once.

We always seem to be the footnote in history.

I just can’t get interested in these type of debates on social media anymore especially Twitter as it’s just so full of glory supporters who think football started in 2012 never mind 1992. The discourse is mind numbing and repetitive.

The same is starting to apply to other media like radio as well, the amount of pundits on talksport who can’t remember simple things that happened in the 90s/00s is really bad - especially when they were playing at the time.

To pick up on your point Jedi about not behind mentioned in Europe, during the LC draw yesterday they mentioned Blackburn winning it in 2002 but not a word about us.

Its true that we're not a 'fashionable' club and maybe its unfair to a point. Can't say it bothers me personally.

If its any consolation, we're mentioned fortnightly on the 'Quickly Kevin, Will He Score?' podcast because of Robbo wearing a jacket and official kit shorts to denote his unveiling as player manager in 1994.

That’s my experience too. Lots of people of a certain age fondly remember the Juninho, Ravenelli, Emerson team too.
I don't mind them mentioning Juninho obviously, but I actually don't like them mentioning Rav and Emo. They are footnotes in our history, both stayed for little over one year, and yet some fans seem to think they're what we're most famous for.

These people are usually the types who loved football in the 90s for a short time after Euro 96 but don't really follow it anymore. I have fondness for anyone who mentions Eindhoven or the 2004 cup win.
