Who's your money on for the Grand National?

Currently a dry morning here in L3 2FE... looks to be very pleasant this afternoon .
Chance of a shower tomorrow afternoon though

It's a race designed to line the pockets of the bookies. Lots of people, who never bet on anything, feel the need to have a "daft bet" because of the media hype. Putting the odd pound on a horse because of a lucky number, birthday date, pick with a pin, falls into the lap of the bookies. The 100/1 winner is the bookies dream, not the favourite winning though, which is rare, causing them to shell-out but cushioned from a total disaster by the "housewife" punters betting on the horses with no hope.

It's also a very cruel race, horse fatality is common.

I can't recall a horse placing in the gold cup and running well in the national in the same year. The gold cup takes a lot out of a horse, which I suspect is the reason. I would avoid corach rambler. It's not that the horse isn't good enough. It's just tough getting them ready.
Rough Quest finished second in the Gold Cup and 2 weeks later won the Grand National.

Although that was a staggering 28 years ago, making me suddenly feel very old! :(

lots of security, a protest, two horses dead.
Animal rising have issued a statement saying they wont be protesting this year. They realise last years was a complete waste of time as it made zero impact on the sport and actually turned more people against their cause (y)

I'm staying away from the fav. I think it's far too short of a price.

It had a grueling Cheltenham and it's coming into this race running off 13lbs higher than last year.

It would need to run a huge race to win.

I fancy Vanillier. Think it's a decent price and with a 9lb swing between Corach Rambler, it could go one further this time after last year's 2nd place.

Panda Boy EW interests me too. Running off same mark as Corach last year. Think he's a solid EW shout.

Course winner and a back story about the trainers wife and mother

Always a good back story with a National winner 👍

Let me know if it wins, I’ll be at Ipswich 😂
