Who would you replace Wilder with?

Michael Carrick might be worth a punt - and it would be a punt, but he would certainly be keen to impress. Of the more established then obviously the likes of Hughton and Dyche know this league and how to get out of it. Obviously the pool to choose from is limited to out of work managers with Gibson’s insistence on not hiring anyone already in a job. I have a feeling he’ll turn to Dyche personally - wouldn’t be my choice but if he steadied the ship an got us up next season who would complain

It was said Dyche was one of the best paid coaches in the prem so it Wont be him.

One Name....Marcelo Bielsa.

See if we could finally see some free flowing attacking high press football at the Riverside for the first time in about 20 years.
4-1-4-1?

I always like the optimism of these posts.
We have long since been a prem club who have any pull internationally.
We can't be fussy.
So, i reckon Pochettino might fancy a couple of years living in Wynyard. 😅
PSG then Boro is a good career progression, in my eyes.

Utilising the head of football model I'd be surprised if we went for (another) manager whose style will require a complete re-write of the squad. One of our biggest problems for years has been a tendancy to switch managerial styles with each appointment, sometimes quite dramatically (Monk>Pulis for example).

This is ultimately what did for Sunderland in their downward spiral, ending up with loads of players, newly signed, who don't fit into the new manager's style and can't be moved on. It's an incredibly costly model.

I would expect (hope) the next manager is progressive, values possession and plays a pressing game.

That said, it can be argued that the current squad don't match the current manager's philosophy so not sure where we'll end up!

Bielsa is who I was told on Saturday we have lined up. I really hope there's some truth in it, can you imagine how he'd set us up. He favoured 4-1-4-1 at Leeds, with an attack minded midfield. We'd probably go something like this...

Dijksteel...Fry...Lenihan...Bola

Jones...Watmore...McGree...Giles

Right time for Wilder to go and we were clearly not performing this season but it was nice to have a manager that played attacking football. When it was working well it was good to watch. Under Pulis, Karanka, Warnock etc then even the wins were hard to watch at times. I 100% don't want us to have to watch hoofball. Even if I think Dyche would do a decent job results wise I wouldn't want to watch it. Football is entertainment for me. We're never going to win the league so I don't want us to just "be effective" in our quest for midtable mediocrity in the PL. I want to enjoy the journey.

It depends on whether Gibson sticks by his principle of only appointing someone out of work, which really does restrict options.

I'd like us to go for an up and coming coach, someone like Anthony Barry.

If its someone in work then Kieron McKenna.

It would be interesting to see what he would do with the squad and what sort of team he would pick. Central defenders play more like midfielders, so Paddy McNair would fit right in presumably. HIGH HIGH INTENSIVE WORKRATE would probably see a few of our squad members out of the door.

Would we see players come back into the fold? Martin Payero? Joe Lumley?

Would he though - have mentioned previously that the problem with McNair is he can play multiple positions, but not well enough in any of them. Don't see how a change of manager fixes that.

But the Payero point is a VERY interesting observation, but only if it WAS Bielsa.
