Which promoted teams have finished in the top 5

Sheff Wed did it, but I think it might have been the year before the PL when David Hirst was in his prime.
 
Some good players in those teams. Newcastle has Andy Cole scoring over 30 goals.

Was Collymore at Forest then?

Blackburn bankrolled by Jack Walker so probably a few good players.
 
I think the Ipswich team had finished in the playoffs for something like the 4 seasons before. Burley said that experience helped enormously in having the right team spirit for the top division. I was thinking of that when it became apparent we wouldn’t go up this year
 
Obviously not Premier League but Boro finished 7th in the top flight in 1974/75 following promotion. They were only a few points off the title I think.
 
Only other I can think of would be Norwich, remember them been in the mix a good few years back now. Got in to Europe but not sure if that followed a promotion season.

We were in contention until the last few games. Then we only drew at home to Derby because of a late Stuey Boam error. Derby went on to win the league. That knocked the stuffing out of us for a couple of games.
The league was ridiculously tight that season. With 5 games left there was only 7 points separating the top 10.

We could (should?) have won the FA Cup that season. Lost to Birmingham in the Quarters. And they were rubbish 😡
