Now then bumface, late to this one mate
I've had many jobs leading up to my present job I started in April 1986 & although I've taken something positive from each job i've had I would say probably the worst for me was back in 1982, when I was 21
I worked as a water jetting operator for a company I think called Beacon, their depot was just off Diana bridge Thornaby, a similar company to Walton Mole
My 1st day at work was at a chemical plant at seal sands called Monsanto, later known as Ineos
My 1st job was to sit on a chair all day in the rain, with my foot on a peddle while a lad operated a high pressure water lance to clear blocked vessels, pipes etc it was tedious & could hours with little affect
We had to work till 8, if I didnt want to work over I had to make my way to my car at thornaby, when 8 came, 12 hours now, we were asked to stay till midnight, mind they were good enough to get us rations
We finished about half 10 then went home
This was how it was over a few months, leaving work at daft o clock getting home with little sleep then our mam coming in waking me up for a rush job, I was sat tired, fed up & thinking I wish I stuck in at school
It came to a head one warm afternoon, 6 months in to my job now, when I was then driving the heavy vehicles needed to operate the equipment
We got back to the depot to finish at 4 after a slog of a day & looking forward to the Boro v Brighton game (our relegation season) when the manager came out & said, right thetes a rush job, you take the vehicle to ICI Wilton, I told him I'm going to the match, his reply, here son, we dont work for the Boro, if you dont go you're sacked, I went to the Boro game, which we won 2-1
Fortunately I didnt wait long for my next job, about 2 weeks later in fact & I loved it, a delivery driver for Hills the bakers, based at Cannon Park
Bit long winded Bumface but you did ask
