What's going to happen to food supply?

I'm not hearing any leaders discuss it... Do they expect it to just magically appear on shelves?
Would love some genuine insight from people ITK

It just seems all these places having full lockdowns... What does that mean for supply chain workers? Are they critical? Do they also isolate?

This was Bamburgh recently on a cycling trip - deserted with a cool breeze. No one in sight. Not everyones cup of T.
Off up to Berwick tomorrow, then Alnwick and Hadrians wall - and a trip back down the Settle and Carlisle over Ribblehead.
Beats working for a living.
We have some wonderful countryside in this country.(y)

This from another forum...

Just been in Morrisons .... Bolton Saw a bloke who’s trolley was full to the brim with hand sanitizers, baby wipes, soaps, everything that people need!! I called him a selfish ****, 😡 gave him a low down about the elderly and mums etc who need these types of things. Told him he should be f*king ashamed of himself! 😡😡
He said: “that’s all good and well mate but I work here, can I carry on filling the shelves now?”

Being a proud Northumbrian, I have to agree that there is amazing countryside on our doorstep. I’m plainly biased but the coast and countryside in Northumberland is second to none. Truly a place of beauty.

I can honestly say hand on heart me an the Mrs have done nothing different shopping wise, we have bought nothing we wouldn’t buy on an ordinary shopping trip. We have bought nothing extra of anything - i guess we’re in a small minority but we refuse to be selfish twàts

The government estimates as many as 20% of people could be off work at a time. That's probably not far off how many take holidays in the summer months. But since most of the people seriously affected by the virus are not of working age anyway, why would there be any effect on food supplies?

Or are the shops filled with 80 year olds stacking shelves and throwing crates of bananas around?

The shops will be restocked within the week or whenever they get scheduled food shipments from the retailers distribution centre and they'll have toilet rolls stacked heavens high until the next panic hits.

We haven't bought more of anything either, just a normal shop last Wednesday. The only thing I have bought extra of is cat food, purely because they cant go out and buy their own if we go into a full lockdown

Suppliers and supply chain are working normally at this stage so in the short term at least it is reasonable to expect shelves will continue to get filled.
Problems could arise as people get ill or self isolate.
Clearly, as staff shortages bite (from supplier to shop) there could result in shortages somewhere along the line. Stock will be prioritised fairly across stores and some store hours may be cut.
Further down the line it could be more difficult. As each country becomes more and more xenophobic you have the following dilemma....
Fresh food shelves empty in (for instance) Spain, with trucks of fresh found bound for France UK et al.
Interesting challenge about closing trading borders in the short term.

At least we can use it as a practice run (sorry, gallows humour)

People were stood outside Morrisons this morning waiting for it to open. I went in to get some stuff for work and one woman was running round with her trolly (the shop was practically empty) she had 2 x 12 packs of bog roll and was on the phone saying to someone "ive got the loo roll now im going for the noodles" and had a really panicky expression on her face. Absolutely effing tool.

What goes on in these people's brains is beyond me.

I know what goes round these people's brains.
Rant incoming....

People who don't usually watch the news and aren't up to speed with current affairs have heard stuff about this 'coronavirus flu thing' from Claire at the club over the weekend. They have them turned on the news and seen the only news being currently reported on is said Coronavirus and seen people queuing at shops and gone **** I need to do that to. Quick let's ask the girls on Facebook what we need to get, and lo and behold the snowball affect begins.

Me and the wife went to ASDA in thornaby on Saturday and they had stocks of everything. Must only be certain areas of the country where the idiots reside

Asda Portrack on Saturday had no meat in the chillers closest to the escalator and the loo roll selves were empty.
No loo roll in there yesterday either. Same for B&M in the town and on Portrack.
We are running low and one pack will keep us going, but trying to find that one pack is proving to be a military operation.
