What will the crowds be like in league 1

Bradford still average about 16,800 in the Fourth Division.
Notts are averaging about 10,000.
Wrexham are about the same.
If we dropped to Division Three - maybe 17k?

Miserable whining ***** who seem to revel in things going wrong, increased posting by the usually silent people who only appear when we get beat.

We are on course...

Bradford's crowds are remarkable really. I know its a big city but their crowds are on a par with when they were in the Premier League.
If we go down then our attendances will depend on how many season tickets we sell. If we rely on walk-ups I reckon it will drop to 10-14k. Rising to 17-20k only if we are doing well and pushing for automatic promotion.
I do think we would sell about 10k season tickets though. So avg attendance would then start at about 14k.
If we go down with a whimper and show no ambition in the summer, appoint Woodgate and rely on youth, then season ticket sales could drop right off.

Bloody hell I remember going to Ayresome Park in the 3rd Div in the early 80's with 5,000 - 7,000 crowds as pretty normal, unless there was a cup run. Back then it was easy distance for thousands to walk to, loads in town in the morning for the shops, good pubs around the ground to pop into at lunchtime, occasional biff to watch to take your mind off the dire football and it was cheap to wander up last minute and walk in.
Be surprised if we suddenly had a big draw in Div 1, 10,000 would be great.

Not quite accurate.
We only had one crowd below 7000 in 86/87 (not counting the Port Vale game). It was against Bury for our first game back at Ayresome.
After that the average was about 10k.

The highest was 18.5k.

Maybe you are thinking of our last couple of seasons in the 2nd div before relegation?

Bradford's season ticket prices are incredibly cheap, which helps to explain it.

Not criticising them for that, it should be applauded, they're packing in the fans.

We were only in the 3rd Division for a single season in the eighties and it wasn’t the early eighties. You’re remembering the pattern and attendances in the 2nd Division.

The dynamic was totally different back then anyway. In fact our baseline attendance in that 3rd division season more or less doubled from the last couple of division two seasons which would not happen today.

We will NOT be relegated.
But, from what I have seen, if we’re playing decent stuff, we get the numbers, irrespective of which level we play. There is a huge, almost unlimited appetite for good football here. By that, I mean in terms of unlimited in as much as people who want to go.
The factors that conspire against that are, poor football, not necessarily poor results, the perception that players aren’t trying and the obscene cost to attend matches. I don’t earn a bad wage but I still have to balance being able to go and being able to do things with the family.
It’s all about effort and the quality of football here.
I have known lads who are die hard Bradford fans, their club has a good price structure and doesn’t charge like a wounded buffalo for tickets, plus, they feel like they are part of something. I feel there’s a real disconnect between our club and it’s supporters, it came back briefly under Karanka but since then the gap is widening. The chairman has stopped engaging with us, but, given the bile on here I’m not surprised

Yes correct sorry, mainly 2nd (I remember one being less than 5,000) so just trying to understand your point. I guess you're saying attendances now are in general much higher than they used to be back in the day? So we'll be fine 10,000 - 15,000?

I think we have a floor of around 12000-14000 season tickets. So with away fans and a few pay on the doors I think we could average around 15000-16000.

If we did well and looked like getting promoted we would get back up around 18000-20000

Ticket prices would surely have to reduce though

The opposite really. That attendances more or less doubled on relegation that time because of the particular circumstances around liquidation and not being relegation candidates for the first time in about five years. That wouldn’t happen this time. They’d collapse. I think it would be a disaster.

if we go down it would be catastrophic for the club and the area. we would easily loose 10k season tickets. how the hell would the club justify any pricing strategy for tickets given the massive increases they have imposed over recent seasons.

there would be an exodus of players and support staff that we couldn't afford

it would be a complete and utter disaster

Yes short of my technical error on 2nd v 3rd (it's all a blur now), that was my thinking. Remembering that things can collapse quickly.
It'd be interesting to see the demographics on the crowd (& the absentees). Would the oldies hang on to their thermoses & tartan blankets, the middle-aged declare that they always loved Tony Mowbray & Netflix, and the youngsters say fxck it, I demand Premier League football like the rest of the country & Look North tells me every night that NUFC is the answer?
