Euro '88 for me in West Germany.

I was 8. England lost all 3 group games. I remember being captivated by the Dutch's orange kit. I'd never seen anything like it!

The Adidas Tango ball. Van Basten's volley in the final....Gullit's bullet header.

Immediately going out and trying to recreate Van Basten's volley in the garden with a tennis ball. Marvelous.

van Basten is my first memory too, scoring vs England and then Germany; I think there was a hattrick in one of the matches.

I'd still think, given the importance and the stage of the match, there's an argument for that being the greatest goal ever. This has been slighlty deminished by MVB saying he hit it becasue he was too tired to try and take it down.

Sad to hear that he no longer considers his football carreer worth the pain he has to live with.

Hat-trick v's England...and yes, really seems to be suffering now.

1984 Euro's in France.
The France v Portugal semi-final especially.
That French midfield of Fernandez, Giresse, Platini and Tigana was class.
After the controversial circumstances of their defeat to Germany in the World Cup Semi-Final 2 years earlier it seemed fitting they went on to win Euro 84.

1968. I couldn't work out why England who were world champions couldn't win it, especially losing to Yugoslavia who didn't even reach the 1966 finals.

Same as me. I still remember the commentary; Brolin, Dahlin, Broooolin, or that's brilliant (or something like that).
Football will never sound quite like it did when Motson or Davies were commentating.

Even though he's been at it since the 90s, Martin Tyler and his 'and its live!!!' b0ll0x will never be as good.

The first tournament I can remember is WC 94, and Roberto Baggio. First Euro's 96, being a kid and watching the semi alone because my mum was at work and my dad was in bed with a migraine. Then running up to him in tears after Southgates penalty

Euro 96, was 6 so only really watched the England games.
Had to go to bed before extra time kicked off in the semis, so had to sneakily watch it on an old portable black and white tv my Mum had in the back of a cupboard. Got caught watching it before the penalties so didn’t get to watch them.

1980, first tournament England had qualified for in my lifetime. Hopes were high, our fans caused trouble in Turin and then we came home. Ron Greenwood chose to alternate the keepers (Clemence and Shilton) and I think he may even have thrown on Garry Birtles to get try and get an equaliser against Italy.
