What vinyl have you bought recently / dusting off for a play?

I always find it fascinating how these splatter records are made and I suppose each one is different due to them being handmade.

The first colour vinyl I bought was Squeeze Cool For Ctas on pink vinyl.

There isn't a huge amount I want this year, but it's sad that there is nowhere in teeeside participating in record store day. You'd think with the vinyl revival, and press-on being local, we'd have at least one active store. I know some small stores have popped up, but most seem to be vintage and none are listed as participating so having to drive to Newcastle for the few things I want.

Also for those new to vinyl, one bit of advice I'd give is to register for Discogs and catalogue what you have. It's much easier to do at the start than when you've got loads. It's worth doing as you can see a value of your collection which is useful for insurance purposes, as well as having a decent marketplace and a catalogue of pretty much every release on vinyl

Started Off this morning listening to the first disc in the Marillion Fugazi box set. Before I got onto the remaining three live discs I saw the news about the death of Steve Harley. So I moved onto his stuff. So far I've played Timeless Flight, Love's A Prima Donna, Face to Face and I'm now onto his Solo albums. Played Hobo With A Grin with The Candidate up next

I spent a lot of my childhood playing my old fellas vinyl and it set me up for life. He had a great collection - Free, Bad Company, Roxy Music, Rolling Stones. Beatles, Who, Kinks etc etc. 100s of albums.
Music has always been a huge part of my life and I was in bands for years.

Here is the thing: how do you all enjoy this stuff? Most of my life, I have had to listen to music on headphones because of sharing a house or living with attached neighbours etc.

How the hell do you listen using these systems without upsetting family and/or neighbours?

I live in a detached house and have an understanding girlfriend

I listen on 2x focal aria 926 floorstanding speakers which are part of my 7.2.4 movie setup but for the purpose of vinyl goes through a Lyngdorf TDAI-3400 stereo amplifier & the .2 above is 2x SVS SB16 ultra subwoofers, so some serious amplification and bass available 😜

That said if no windows are open, with good double glazing, I can crank it seriously loud before it gets obnoxious outside, which is certainly louder than I'd listen to normally. I'm often quite impressed at how loud it is inside but if I go in the garden you can only hear it quite faintly.

My girlfriend enjoys music too, so no issues there. I work from home so have the house during the day, so listen to what i want then. On an evening I play stuff we'll both like

Being in bands for years - cymbals are ear killers - and listening to music via headphones has had a predictable effect on my hearing. I think the trouble with headphones is that you get used to the level and keep increasing it. This doesn't happen so much with speakers because of the physical bass and sound pressure that you can actually feel.
I cant help being envious of you lot who can let rip in the comfort of your own home.

I think a good set of headphones will always beat a good set of speakers for fidelity.

If you have to listen with headphones due to circumstances, splash out on a decent set of headphones and a headphone amp to drive them, a headphone amp makes a huge difference imo
