What the hell is going on with clubs finances?!

I do think a peasants' revolt situation is brewing, both in football and general society.

Why the f*** should the vast, vast majority of teams/people suffer to service the wealth and prosperity of the few?

In football terms, let's vote the slimy f****** out of our leagues, they can go felate some petro state nobody and disappear up their own ars*.

We can all get back to the sport we love.

Wasn't there an opposition manager a few years back (possibly when Mowbray was manager) who made the suggestion in a post match presser that we hadn't paid our players wages, or am I misremembering that?
Yes that sounds familiar, but turned out to be bollox.

He ended up having to apologise, the whole thing was bizarre
I suspect he had a legal letter telling him to put the record straight. Who speculates like that, when you are a footy manager, to go on air and claim something like that could easily be disproven based on just hearsay

You mean the loophole that is massive being exploited.
Of course allowances have to be made for the extraordinary circumstances of the pandemic but allowable losses are something like £105m over 3 years, and Everton are £370m in the red for that period. Chelsea are spending that every transfer window at the minute.

I simply don’t understand why it isn’t black and white like the La Liga registering players thing: if you’re £1 over the FFP limit, you’re docked points straightaway.

Well I do understand why, it’s that trademark British hands-off governance of big money that falls somewhere between light touch regulation to encourage investment and pure corruption. It’s similar to how massive multinationals can “negotiate” their tax bills after they’re found in breach; try that **** as a sole trader electrician and see how far it gets you.

It should be zero tolerance enforcement as a sporting rule, no negotiations or appeals or lawsuits afterwards like City are doing.

- And the reason it should be an immediate punishment, and not go through the courts for years is that for the duration of the legal case, it’s actually corrupting the sport.

These teams are cheating in real time and can still win leagues. If City or whoever are found guilty of breaking FFP and retrospectively have their titles taken from them, they still have the memories and experience of winning them. I can’t see an open top bus parade happening in Liverpool in 2025 for the 2018 league title.

Makes me think of those guys who were awarded the Tour de France after Lance Armstrong and everyone were scratched from the history books. It’s not really a fun way to win it.

The whole sorry state is why the independent regulator for football is an absolutely crucial role in the years coming up.

Fingers crossed they bring in real time financial evaluation of league clubs. Work with the PL and FL to bring in a single set of FFP rules which are fit for purpose (more akin to what we have in the championship). They need to all work to bring football clubs back into the real world of sustainable business.

I recently read that all championship clubs are making a loss. This division in particular it’s not uncommon for clubs to be spending 125% of turnover on wages alone or more. This won’t change without some serious rule changes across the top 5 divisions in England.

Oh and another thing that needs to be managed in fans expectations in terms of spending. There seemed to be a good number of our fan base who thought it would be a good idea to spend £20m+ on a single striker in the summer. It’s just not realistic for a club like us at the moment and even so, do you really want that risk all in one basket. If we did have that money, we should be looking at it more like how can we make it more affordable for fans to support the club, what improvements can we bring to enhance the fan match day experience, what infrastructure improvements can we invest in.

Problem with Lance, pretty much all were at it at some point.

Football wise there are what, 10% in bother.

FFP in its current form means no one can ever catch the ones who spent big in the 1980s-2010! There should be some kind of maximum spend. I watched a Aleksander Cerefin interview the other day…when asked about it he made some remark about “Slovakian companies won’t ever be able to reach British companies” people sounded convinced by him judging by the comments…. Sounded like nothing was changing at UEFA for me
