What on earth has happened to Jones the last 10-12 months

Think he would benefit from having Djiksteel in the team. I agree with the above comment regarding Smith not overlapping enough.

He is frustrating at the moment though. His cross either doesn't beat the first man or he'll overhit it out of play.

I also feel ironically he can slow us down at times. There was a moment late on where he had the ball close to the corner flag and Hackney was stood in space on the edge of the box. Everyone in the north stand was shouting for him to pick him out but he took too long and Hackney ended up marked.

He's nowhere near our worst player or dreadful. in fact it was noticeable 2nd half how much we were trying to get it out to him on the right.
He played one fantastic ball into Akpom who nearly scored.
But we do like knocking our young players. not long after the Akpom chance he hit the first man and the guy near me screamed angrily "every F***ing time Jones" happily ignoring the ball seconds earlier to Akpom.
His final ball isn't always the best but I'm sure he knows he has to work on it.
Give him a break. Get behind him. He needs encouragement not abuse.

I can forgive Jones for putting a poor cross in or a loose touch, but his poor temperament is starting to grind on me. Stupid fouls, kicking out, needless shoves, all earning yellow cards will soon see him dropped under Carrick I think.

It’s a sign that the opposition are getting to him and he will cost us with a red one game soon.
Does it every game. Last match it was pushing their player to the ground as he was about to take a throw in, today needless late tackles. He will get to 10 bookings this season, no doubt.

2 goals and three assists this season - I’m not sure what some people are expecting ? He hasn’t been as good as early last season,
but he certainly hasn’t been the disaster some are making out. Who have we got that is better ?

I'd call it 4 assists to be honest. He won a penalty which we converted, that's an assist for me. Also has played a part in a few other goals, like in midweek for example.
People love a scapegoat though, if it makes people feel happy then let them crack on...

I understand why Smith is currently in the side but Djiksteel would give us a double threat down the right and would link up well with Jones. I think Jones confidence has taken a knock and he is almost trying too hard.

Jones came a ridiculously long way in a very short space of time. Only been in our team for just over a year. Went from Queen of the South on loan to suddenly terrorising Man U and Spurs defenders. It was only natural his level might drop. Hardly merits the abuse he’s getting. I’m sure he’s as frustrated as we are.

He’s a very talented footballer, just short on form and confidence.

Just a thought…for me, he looks at his most dangerous when running at defenders. His crossing though is shocking at the moment. Maybe try playing him more centrally?

Perhaps a 4321 or 4312 with Jones behind the striker(s).

I seem to remember Man U doing this with Giggs towards the end of his career when he’d lost some of his pace and he was still really dangerous.

I think he would be a lot better with a RB who got past him though. I like Smith but he rarely gets past Jones to take a player with him and open up space, so jones often doubled up on
Smith made numerous runs past him today and didn't get the ball once. After a while, you stop making the runs

Jones is given the ball one on one so many times but slows it down so he ends up doubled up on of his own doing. Nothing to do with Smith (or Dijksteel or whomever is at right back). And then he ends up losing it as he has too much to do.

As the game went on today, we stopped passing to him. A complete lack of trust in him is developing. Even when he beats his man, as he did a few times to day, and well, his end product is atrocious.

He's looking like a lad who came from non-league not too long ago. There's definitely a player there but he needs some serious coaching right now to turn him into a player with a 10+ year career ahead of him at this level and above.

His main job is the final ball, now he's not a wing back, and its consistently atrocious. It's not knocking him, his final ball is just crap.

Clueless idiots on this thread who don't actually go to the games.
Surrounded by 2 or 3 defenders every time he received the ball and still out most dangerous players....idiots who know nothing!!!!
I go to the games and was there today, as I was at Hull and Preston. He was crap. He ends up with 2 or 3 defenders on him because his touch is p*ss poor and he tries to slow the defender down to then run at them and he's not good enough to do it (a la Adama) and ends up with additional players around him. He was given the ball enough by Smith today one on one with his full back and did minimal with it. And the odd occasion he beat his man he failed to find a team mate.

So back in your box

Isiah Jones was an unexpected but welcome breath of fresh air last season. The whole team is struggling this season and its a new learning curve for Jones. He needs support not criticism. Will we all be on Hackney's back in 12 months time? I'd rather the team evolve, its a journey. Roll with it... we might not be promoted but we will not be relegated

I feel that he'll improve if we can put some back to back wins together.
He's by no means at his best, but I think he's a bit low on confidence and it's showing in the way he is throwing himself to the floor and the niggly little fouls. A confident Jones wouldn't be resorting to such things.
He's not the only one who'll benefit from a boost in their confidence either.

And despite that he could have had multiple assists in the last two games if we finished better. So not atrocious at all -but yes, as any young player could be improved. Maybe you should get behind him?

That’s just simply not true. Surrounded by 2-3 players some of the time he received the ball, yes… every single time, definitely not. There was times yesterday when he was 1v1 or even free and he was wasteful, eg putting a cross straight over the bar. To say he’s surrounded by 2-3 every time he has the ball is a complete exaggeration.

And so is saying he’s rubbish, he’s hiding, he’s regressed etc etc like a load of fans have been doing recently. Also he may
mis hit a few passes and crosses or make some wrong decisions but if he didn’t do that he wouldn’t still be here he’s be premier league. He put in a lot of good balls as well yesterday that didn’t work because of his team mates errors and not his.

He’s not the perfect player but he gives his all and tries, our fickle keyboard warrior fans need to get off his back and get behind him.

You’d soon all be whinging if he buggers off in Jan and who could blame him, he carried this team for half of last season and in his struggles this year instead of encouragement he gets abuse.
