What is the best Coldplay song and why is it Charlie Brown?

Bands really split opinion, I would rarely describe one as ‘*****’ as I realise the emotional ties that people have with their favourite songs, artists etc
For instance, I don’t get the love for Oasis, the fact that 50 year old men dress like them, on reflection they are 50 year old men, but you get my point, anyway, their certainly not *****, I saw them at the Town Hall in either 94 or 95, can’t remember which, they were pure F***ing gasoline, wasn’t keen on them after definitively maybe.
Take That fans are a mystery to me but the band can all sing.
I wonder how talented the people are on here that have been slating Coldplay? I can probably guess.

I really don't understand the hatred for Coldplay. I recently watched the documentary put together by a lad who has been filming them since they were just college mates messing about and thought they all seemed like decent people. They run the band as a democracy which includes their fifth member, mate and creative manage or whatever. They share the money equally. They clearly put an awful lot into making their live shows as entertaining and involving as possible for their fans. The wristbands thing is genius.
On top of that they have a quite incredible catalogue songs which are full of hooks, good lyrics and easy to remember to sing along with. I get that Chris Martin is a bit marmite, but in the documentary i grew to like him. Mainly because he is funny and understands that he's an irritating berk.
Not sure what I would say their best song is.... probably Fix You, which people will be playing and singing for decades. It's also genius.

Wouldn't say I was particularly a fan but I think they're fine. Like plenty of their songs, would be quite happy to go see them live.

CM does a great job taking the **** out of himself in extras and modern family. Clearly doesn't take himself too seriously.

And Yellow is simply a beautiful piece of music (arguably even better played purely as string piece).

This really. I've never bought anything by them and I've never willingly listened to anything by them but if they come on the wireless I'm not rushing to turn them off either. What I've heard is perfectly agreeable, some of it catchy, and absolutely fine to have on in the background. Which makes them sound bland, which I don't particularly think they are either.

Pretty much the same for me as wel.

Like a lot of their songs and Chris Martin seems like a decent bloke from things I've seen him on (carpool karaoke and being interviewed by Greg James before the Whitby gig). I haven't seen them live yet but I would like too. From performances I've seen on TV it all seems to be colour and celebration

Like Oasis, Madonna, U2 etc it’s just become easy for people to hate them when they are sick of them. The fact they’ve got that big in the first place is a testament to how good they are. It’s not long ago a lot of people hated Paul McCartney but he appears to be “well liked” again now.

I think one of the main reasons I’ve never been “into” Coldplay however is that I’ve always absolutely hated Yellow, and it was absurdly over played when it first came out. I don’t like his voice either, generally speaking, but the lyrics to the song just irritate me as well. God I absolutely hate it.

But they do have some decent songs other than that.

Not a fan of the song at all but, FFS ... how many bands do this? And make their audience part of the show. Unreal.
I mean, I went to see Roxy Music at the Manchester arena (tiny compared to this) and they were good, but I felt totally detached .... arenas suck.

Coldplay aren't a band I can hate despite them not being my cup of tea - apart from some early album output. They got my daughter - who is a huge fan and has seen them a dozen times at least - through a very tough time when she was bed bound for 2 years. They listened to her through social media, sent her tour posters, some tour books and actual track listings from the tours, including wristbands for each, they even made time to talk to her at one of the later tours. Every time she got something from them it made her so happy and determined to get to see them...and she did I took her to two of the concerts and I have to say they were quite brilliant - a real stadium band with a show many bands could learn a few things from.

That is an amazing story. And not entirely surprising after watching the documentary. They just do stuff on the quiet.

That's pretty cool. The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra do a version of it, which my wife and I used at our wedding:
