What formation is Carrick going to go for

Four at the back seems to suit us better, and players like Fry and Lenihan will certainly be happier in a back four but what about midfield and up front ? 4-2-3-1, 4-3-3, 4-4-2 ? What did he have Man Utd playing in his few games there

According to sofascore he played 4231 twice and 4312. Transfermarkt say his preferred formation was 4141, so who knows

4-3-3 for me as well. Just don't think we've got the personnel to play any other way if playing four at the back.

I'd be tempted to have a look at 4-3-1-2 with Muniz sitting deeper but maybe in a cup match

I agree with 4-3-3. Get bodies in midfield, make it solid and build from there.

We have looked pretty solid playing 4 at the back including 2nd half v Blackburn
I would play Giles further up field though and let Bola defend

With the current squad it would be 2 of our central midfielders, Jones and Giles outside. Dijksteel/Bola behind them.

I think he can, and probably has done in the past but I'm not sure he would excel there. He's got good vision and passing and but I think he would be fairly to mark out of the game, his touch/close control doesn't suggest to me he can work effectively under pressure.

I think our most effective number 10 is probably McGree. Seems like he links up well and can find space in a very congested area of the pitch. His end product is lacking somewhat but he's probably the best we've got imo.

Of course we've never actually recruited a number 10 as it wasn't required for Wilder's formation. I think playing McGree there earlier this season was more desperation than expectation.
