What do you dislike about Christmas?

Being asked by an older relative every year if I’d like a Sherry when every year previously I have said I don’t like the stuff and then being offered a can of Carling Black Label instead.

Getting Christmas cards from people you haven’t seen in many years containing a letter about their year and how their kids are doing so well in work getting yet another promotion and pay rise and looking forward to their holiday in Antigua, Bermuda or The Gold Coast etc.

I do love pigs in blankets, guessing presents (no sock shortage in my house) and playing various games (hoping for the Gregg Wallace edition of Articulate)

I'm still here so I love it, birthday on Boxing day, the match, people off work and coming around the house. I have kids @ grand kids so its always good.

Plus its heading towards spring and I have lots planned.

I couldn't be more opposed to religion in all its forms, but I like Christmas. So it's something of a dilemma for me. Keep Christ out of Christmas, that's what I say.

All the decorations coming down afterwards, makes everywhere seem gloomy.

Mariah Carey.

Middlesbrough's traditional festive slump

Hallmark Christmas films.

Being a chef I work right through Xmas & New Year so hard to enjoy. 1000+ customers on Xmas eve then Xmas day off but pretty knackered to enjoy it then straight back in at 8am Boxing day.
Oh,and 2 birthdays either side - daughter on 22nd and son on 28th 😀

The only thing I dislike about Christmas is that long ago, Christians pegged it to the pagan winter festival instead of the summer solstice.

Imagine having all that family time with the garden to utilise and the ability to get outdoor toys that the kids would be happy to use.

The relentlessness of it all. This year seems earlier than ever - as soon as Halloween was out of the way, the adverts started. I dunno if it's a sign that companies are absolutely desperate to sell you something so they can still be here in 2025.

Telling folk I don't want anything. I'm in my sixties, I have money, I can buy myself things. If you must, just get me a book, that'll be fine. "Oh no, you can't just have a book!. There must be something you want more than that!!". Yeah, a solid gold Les Paul.

My dad always said the same thing if he walked what he wanted for Christmas- just get me a bag of sweets
Said the same thing about birthday cards / don’t bother with a card just get me a bag of sweets
No wonder he had dentures

There’s some right scrooges on here
Don't get me wrong , if I'm in good company not getting stressed about it being perfect, and just let the day happen, without people around me trying to micro manage every detail and emotion then it can be the best day ( as I found out at 28).

Love Christmas. I just wish people didn’t feel obligated to overspend, particularly on kids.

Families then spend the next six months trying to balance the books, just in time to need to finance a summer holiday. It’s all too much too much.

It’s my favourite holiday by miles 🥳
Love everything about Christmas, the traditions and routine. I especially love Christmas dinner and taking the day itself at our own pace, not being too restrictive with timings, things happen when they happen.

This year I dislike the amount of Boro home matches in quick succession. I do love a Boxing Day home game but this year we have something silly like 3 home matches in 9 days which even though I love the Boro means you feel like you're abandoning your family for the footy. I may well only end up doing two of the three.
