I wonder what tax payers get from a company losing millions each year?I seem to recall the TDC ( the government quango at the time) paid for the land including remediation and the roads drainage etc.
Yes. Was a calamity.Dropped a right own goal b0llock there didn’t they
Weren’t British Steel a major club sponsor too?
3 times that of the Darlo one, which looks like it had the most shoddy original paint job ever.Does anybody know what the expected lifespan is of stadiums such as The Riverside?
Ive mentioned this before, not sure if anyone else remembers, but at the time some fella (probably an engineer or something I guess) definitely came out and said it would have a pretty short lifespan compared to other stadiums. I’m sure it was because of the boggy ground it is built on or something.Does anybody know what the expected lifespan is of stadiums such as The Riverside?
It’s proven that it can be used for concerts now so I’m not sure that it was ever the stadium that was holding that back. I have always thought it was slight bizarre not having a train station given how close the line is.A great investment.
If the stadium was a built again, a roof and to make suitable for year round concerts and a train station next to the stadium and offices and shops inside the stadium would have made it even better.
Sunderland has been a concert stadium for about 20 years.
Whatever you build on, the building has to stand up so doesn't really matter what's at the surface. Just means the piles/sub-structure design costs an awful lot more.Ive mentioned this before, not sure if anyone else remembers, but at the time some fella (probably an engineer or something I guess) definitely came out and said it would have a pretty short lifespan compared to other stadiums. Apparently if you stand inside you can hear the seaI flew over a few months ago and was basically a shell.
I’m sure Gibson said it was designed to be our stadium for 50 years, probably about right I would say without a major refurb.Whatever you build on, the building has to stand up so doesn't really matter what's at the surface. Just means the piles/sub-structure design costs an awful lot more.
The location near the coast will be the worse factor, steel degradation etc. Need to keep on top of the paintwork
Sure they definitely said it would start to sink!I’m sure Gibson said it was designed to be our stadium for 50 years, probably about right I would say without a major refurb.
As an engineer myself I had to laugh at that comment above about the boggy ground. Agree about the aggressive environment for the paintwork but I’m fairly sure it gets repainted every few years.
If the Cellnet sponsorship hadn't lapsed it would be now known as the "O2 Riverside Stadium"Know lads who still refer to it as the Cellnet
It looks ok so farSure they definitely said it would start to sink!
They could rename it the “Love Island Stadium”.No idea, I am sure it will be there long after us though.
Unless it is a bit too close to the river and actually ends up in it with the predicted sea level rises.
It’s the little things that I think we lack like not having our badge on the bins
Rubbish idea that like.
No recollection of that either.
Wasn't the first name the Cellnet Riverside Stadium?
