What can you buy with £37 billion?

You could buy Woolies for £7 billion.
I don't want woolies, everything they sold was crap, except for the pic 'n' mix. Wasn't their trade name winfred or somesuch. I had a woolies tennis racquet as a kid, it weighed about 5 pounds and was made out of solid redwood or something equally as heavy. I was the laughing stock at my posh grammar school

I don't point out your spelling mistakes. We all make them. I'm pointing out your bad grammar. Which you can correct.

Can you explain to me why you are happy with spending g such a massive amount of money on track and trace. Even if you think that 85% is for testing. Can you justify that expenditure? Do you comprehend what a preposterously massive number that it? Compared to what other countries have spent? Or are you innumerate as well as illiterate?
Reverts to being aggressive and offensive as usual.

Read the entire thread. I was plenty patient with him at first. Everyone has a breaking point. There is only so far you can go trying to be reasonable with someone like that before his endorsement of government corruption becomes unpleasant.

But well done you. It's always good for certain people to deflect from idiocy by personally attacking me right off the bat. You must be proud.

Oh by the way......don't let the facts get in the way of a good anti-Tory rant.

Do keep up and stop listening to the $hit Corbyn spouts.

That's been posted before. As has the fact one of the trustees is a Tory Party donor. Do try and keep up.

Not sure what the Corbyn thing means? Perhaps you can explain.

Out of interest, what would we consider a successful T&T system based on the primary metric of getting hold of positive cases and tracing their contacts, which is the function of the system ie what %age of positive cases who provide details of 1 or more contacts, or indeed zero contacts if they haven't had any since 5-7 days before or after being symptomatic or a confirmed positive test

Would successful be 50%, 75%, 80%?

Edit: and for clarity, I'm not in the least infering that £37b is good value, or a good cost, nor indeed that the recipients were the most appropriately selected or fit for purpose, just curious as to what we view as successful. The point has also been made that the figure is not solely for a contact tracing system, it includes the spend on community, workplace and educational testing as well. That point is correct btw

Very kind of you to point that out. So if you've seen it posted already perhaps you should now acknowledge the stupidity of not reading it as it highlights the nonsense of your claims.

Yet some people, like @ABHBORO seem to want to defend the government spending £500 of OUR money on something that doesn't work at all.
Really ? Your evidence that this system doesn't work is based on what exactly because the facts show something completely different.
Here's some examples for you.

Daily testing per 1000 People: UK: 16; France: 7; Germany: 3; Italy: 5; Spain: 2; ........ etc
Total Tests Performed per 1000 People: UK: 1,828; France: No Data; Germany: 600; Italy: 831; Spain: 776.......

Also the last stats on contact tracing show the number running at 93% of those identified as being contacted by T&T.
It has been >90% throughout March. Hardly a system that "doesn't work".

At least it seems that the penny has finally dropped that this was a Test and Trace and not, as you kept referring to Track and Trace.
Keep on keeping up. You'll get there (y) (in best patronising @r$hole voice )

Oh, the Corbyn thing. Well I assume that this is where this post has its roots. i.e..

"On Tuesday, former Labour leader and independent MP Jeremy Corbyn claimed in parliament that £37 billion was found to pay Serco for a “failed track and trace system.”

What is it about assuming making an Ass out of u and Me. You really shouldn't have assumed I listen to anything Corbyn says. That's your issue.

Are you happy with so much money being spent on the system? I notice you can't give me figures for other countries either? I wonder if you're smart enough to realise how big a number 36 Billion is. I do wonder why you are so happy to be conned out of your hard earned taxes. It seems odd to me. Unless you're some sort of sap.

Once again I have to explain to the hard of thinking ffs.
I said "I assume that this is where this post has its roots." As you didn't start this post I don't give a flying fcuk whether you listen to Corbyn or not. Plenty on here do.

I have no idea if this represents good value for money or not, and neither do you. Neither does anyone else for that matter. This is something new and totally unchartered where we literally started from scratch. Maybe you could give us all a figure that you'd be happy with, along with some justification for that figure of course.

Also, I have no idea how much other countries have spent. This seems to be something that you're particularly hung up on so please enlighten me. However I do know, from the actual official figures I've posted, that we are testing more than twice the number of people that other comparable countries (population wise) are doing. This despite the huge 3rd wave hitting Europe. So it looks like we're spending wisely right now. I bet they all wish they'd spent a bit more now.

Finally, we haven't actually spent £36bn. That is the amount of money set aside for 2 years which may not be all spent. As stated the vast majority of the money spent will be on testing and the inference in this post that the Tories have hared over £36bn to their friends for a pig-in-a-poke is just total bull$hit.

Unless you're some sort of sap.
You really are an obnoxious Cnut as you've proven throughout this thread.

Aggression and abuse. Typical.

I can't work out people like you. You can't possibly think wasting £37billion of our money is a good idea. So why do you defend it? Its weird. You're defending government corruption. What motivates someone like you to do that? Are you a sociopath? A thief yourself? Just wanting to be argumentative? It's odd behaviour

What should 124,147,198 tests have cost?

I had involvement in setting up 2 testing locations. 1 was mobile & basically a transit van & marquee in a car park so easy, the other was a "permanent" testing site & the first of its design in England. The project was lead by Deloitte & the site was going to be operated by Sodexo. In between were a load of local contractors groundworkers, fencers, electricians, modular builders etc. We met onsite on Thursday & the location was approved, legals completed Friday & site handed over on Saturday morning. The following Sunday it was handed over to Sodexo & they began testing people on the Monday. It has been there over six months now testing 1,200 people a day, seven days a week.

A friend said similarly rapid pace construction has gone on to create & certify "Containment Level 2 +" labs (I think Covid samples should be dealt with in CL3 labs but the Govt relaxed rules to allow them to be worked in CL2 labs as long as they were kept in the appropriate safety cabinet) to create capacity to test all the samples produced.

Doing that is expensive.
Doing it quickly is expensive.
Running it 7 days a week is expensive.

The Govt can be criticised, they'd defunded public health & local authorities for 10 years, they hadn't planned for an eventuality like this despite the recent outbreaks of SARS, MARS, Swine Flu etc. and so we started from a self-inflicted low base and a lot of the spending is on temporary infrastructure & so when this pandemic is over, it will be dismantled & won't be available if Covid-22 comes along.

But we were in a global pandemic & needed to act quickly. If they'd put everything out to tender & saved 20% it would still have cost £29.6BN but how many more lives would've been lost to do so.

Ever thought of answering some of the questions ? Just give us a number then ....... well

You want to check through some of your posts I think. Millbrook called it right and then you accuse me of being "some sort of sap." and now "a sociopath". Like I said, you really are an obnoxious Cnut.

So your happy that money was spent on a company that is actually banned from tendering for government contracts? It worries me the amount of people trying to defend government corruption

More abuse. That's a shame. I guess that goes hand in hand with being the type of person to defend corruption

No Smoggie, it was at cost. If you wanted it configured and installed it was charged at Infosys' extortiant daily rate, about a grand a day for an architect. It would take quite a while to get up to 37 billion, or even 1 billion, or even a million.

Infosys do a great deal pro-bono around the world. We are expensive, absoloutely, but spend a great deal of our profit, time and resources on charitable efforts.
Ah, so that's who you work for, I did wonder.
