What are British values?

For 10 to 11% of the population who are going to vote for Reform, it appears to be deliberately letting migrants drown in the Chanel. Ben Habib who came to the UK as a child would let them drown as their own actions caused their deaths. Unless they are willing to swim back of course. Then he thinks the Border Force should give them a lifesaver. How nice.

I can safely say that in over 8 years here, I've never seen a Spaniard whistling
Maybe because you live in the Costa del Fish and Chips? 😉

Only joking!

Seriously though I see one of the Canary Islands have their own whistling language and many communicate by whistling only - so I suspect you would if you went over there!

I remember maps with lots of red bits on it. Was told that this was our empire and we were spreading British values across the world.
In the end the red bits gradually disappeared and became different colours. Because the people there realised the values were a bit shoite

Violence
Colonialism
Oppression
Quashing dissent
Torture
Murder
Deceit
Lies
Manipulating the majority
For the few not the many
Suppliers of weapons of death to tyrants

The official answer is:

Democracy, Rule of Law, Respect and Tolerance, Individual Liberty.

So to echo the unicorn above, all things our government has repeatedly tried to undermine.
I had to take part in annual staff training on this and at one point had to integrate them into my lesson plans.

Many of the values are relative - for example I do think we are as a generalisation more honest than some of other nations. It doesn't mean we are completely honest.

We do value democracy more than many other nations - at one stage 85 years ago - Germany, Italy, Greece, Spain, Russia/Soviet Union and Portugal were all ruled dictators that's a lot of Europe. We tend not to go for extreme politics.

British exceptionalism
The Class System
Media owned by Billionaires
Politicians controlled by donors and lobbyists
Absolutely shocking roads
Mainly awful public transport
Generally poor small new build homes
A pretend democracy that is really an aristocracy

As for the average Brit:

Loves sport
Loves music
Being out with friends (I know lots of Norwegians who love we go out drinking together)
Humour - Some of the non-Brits I know think we’re nuts

Whatever our values - British Music and comedy is played all around the World, similar in other parts of the Arts, our actors and artists etc represent a much greater influence than the 1.25% of the World population we represent.

That's all about our past power and the spread of our language and to a certain extent, culture. It's also about the power of the English language within the media, particularly those based in USA.
