What about Jesse Lingard.

Well that's the killer point really isn't it? IF he's fit and focussed.

He took the money from Forest, as is his right. But from the outside looking in, appears the focus wasn't there. He should've been a key player for them, he could barely get a game.

Would he **** the championship? Nothing from his time at Forest suggests he would. Doesn't matter how talented you are, if the attitude isn't right you're not going to shine for anyone.

Be interesting to see how he does at his next club (and who shows an interest). I'm not convinced he has the desire anymore. But maybe Forest was just a bad fit for some reason, it happens.
I think his focus may have drifted after what happened in his personal life. I think based on his talent he would breeze the second division. I think people underestimate how good you have to be to spend your whole career in the Premier League. He should’ve gone to West Ham instead of Forest IMO. He’s apparently training with them now. I have a sense he’ll rediscover some form again if Moyes takes him on.

But, again, we don’t know what’s happening off the field. He’s said in previous interviews that he’s had depression and fallen out of the love with the game, actually one of the reasons he gave was the dog’s abuse he received from fans.

Surely the killer point is he is a premier League footballer whose wages demands would be so far in excess of anything the club is able or willing to pay that the idea of him signing for us is ludicrous? Or is this a whoosh moment where I'm missing the joke?
Oh completely agree.

I was just commenting on the hypothetical scenario he did drop down to play in the championship.

It's obviously not going to happen.

Definitely should've stayed at West Ham. But assume they weren't going to pay anything like Forest were.

Probably would've been better for him mentally (more settled, fans loved him) and professionally. But when someone throws silly money at you hard to turn down.

In a way similar to what we did with Merson. Great for us, but for him, particularly on a personal level, it was a terrible move really (although he wouldn't have known at the time we'd end up sticking him in the same house as another alcoholic 🤦‍♂️).

Will add nothing to us on the pitch but probably a great asset for the social media team.

Its a big No from me

I feel for Lingard, think he’s a brilliant player when he’s on it - which happens very rarely, combination of attitude, focus and bad career decisions.

Was so pleased for him when he went to West Ham and bossed it. Looked like one of the best players in the league outside the top 4 for that half season. Terrible, terrible decision to stay at United that summer and probably a victim of their mismanagement / false promises. Another terrible decision to take the money to be the superstar at Forest but then quickly get forgotten about in their pile of new signings.

Wasted career in many respects. Bit like Dele and Adama, I’d love to the see the three of them just happy and playing for fun as they’re all amazing players to watch.

Not sure why people are calling/having a go at him? I mean on a personal level. He appears to like clothes and pop music… which seems to annoy people. I think he missed a lot of football looking after his family a couple of years back. He might’ve lost focus, who knows. Your priorities change during times like that.

And if Forest are stupid enough to offer him £1m a month, more than anyone else was offering, then he’s going to take it isn’t he.

Let’s face it though, when it comes to playing football, if he’s fit and focused then he’d absolutely p*ss this division in his pipe and slippers.
If he's into pop and fashion, great for him, but it's itre if hes not doing it on the pitch, purely on a football basis, I'm saying no because the money would be more valuable elsewhere on a more hungry, more focused, younger footballer.
