What’s happened to Payero

Again playing for Boca doesn’t prove anything. Do you know how big their league is? It’s like joining the Premier League with the top half of the Championship. There’s only a few good sides in the whole league.

Pretty much any decent Argentinian player gets snapped up and out of their league by the time they reach their 20s. What’s left is often a load of dross. River Plate and Boca are just big names. Their days of being top sides are long since gone.

South American club football is a mess and now pretty much dominated be Brazilian teams. Even they look shakey with Flamengo not even making the Club World Cup Final. Their ownership rule changes might finally change things though but it’s going to take a few years for them to turn things around.

yeah if he was any of our other imported flops and not from Argentina no one would be making a fuss about him coming back, if we give him a chance I bet he be injured half the time like before anyways lol

A tad ironic post considering your user name.

An awful waste of money for a player clearly not suited to the English game.

I imagine he will be getting a few mentions if there is another worst ever Boro 11 thread 10 years from now.

The Argentinian primera league is no where near the standard of the championship. It is probably just below Scottish premiership and just above league 1.
Yeah your right, below is a reply I did on another Payero post a few months ago.

Argentina Primera is the 19th league ranking in the world... the Scottish Prem is higher, and the Championship is the 11th...
So Payero is playing in a sub standard league... says it all..

Payero won another cup with boca last night that's league and Cup this season. I'm thinking Carrick may reintegrate him in the summer

We paid good money for him so we must have done some scouting and determined that he was a good prospect. He was also included in Argentina's Olympics squad.

Players regularly struggle adapting to the English game but it doesn't make them bad players. His injury came at a bad time last season. He would have had a chance with our injuries and suspensions. He also had pretty much no chance under Wilder anyway, a man that is well known for not trusting youth or foreigners. I would let someone else take a look at him before writing him off completely based on Wilder's judgement.

Isn't that what sending him to boca did? If he was good enough to play for us surely he would be blowing that league wide open instead of being an occasional sub

I haven't watched any of his matches to know whether he has been performing well or not. Not everyone blows leagues wide open though. If he's doing his job and they are winning leagues and cups then it's difficult to know whether he is not performing or whether they have just got better players ahead of him. Not like they are stuggling to avoid relegation and he's still not getting picked.
