Went on a nice bike ride today....

Recovering from recent Achilles tendon surgery and cycling is my go to exercise right now. Pounding the pavements as a runner is over for me.....anyway.........
Eston to The Riverside, transporter bridge, Old Town hall, up through the town and past the Old Ayresome Park site, then onto Albert Park, up Marton Road passing JCUH, along past Stewart's Park and back home to Eston.
Did my legs feel it? Yes.
Did my Achilles feel it? Most certainly.
Did I enjoy it? Most definitely. :)
Any cyclists out there recommend some local routes? Just building things up at the moment so shorter routes required for now.

Look at the forecast before you go, pedal out into the wind so you have it on your back when you pedal home. If the wind is coming off the sea, like today, use the cycle paths along and past Kirkleatham and through to Marske. At the roundabout go straight on past the Cricket ground. Eventually you'll come to a hard-core path next to the railway line, take this all the way into Saltburn. Come back to Eston the same way until you start getting a bit better on the bike and explore alternative routes back home.

Going westward is the one you'll probably do the most if you pedal out into the wind and the route you're doing is a good start. Again as you get better on your bike, you could pedal along the cycle path past Dawson's yard and get on the hard-core path along the river, to the barrage.

Both routes are easily doable on a road bike, although you might need decent puncture resistant tyres. Having said that, I just use my normal road tyres and haven't had a puncture yet on those routes.

Welcome to cycling, it's great fun.

Fantastic info Gregor, thank you very much.
