Well, there's the last of my magazines gone...

First it was Whizzer & Chips, then Football Handbook (anyone remember that?!), then Crash. Select and The Word followed later and now Q is going to the big newsagents in the sky too (not that it's been any good for a few years tbh).

A real shame this, I used to subscribe back in the 1990s and it was always a decent read, but quality started to decline and I stopped and would just get the odd issue here and there.

I used to love The Word too (didn't they drop the 'The' after a while though?). Enjoyed many a hidden gem on those word of mouth free CDs too.

The did...in fact, was it EVER called THE Word?? I'm not sure now!

I used to have every Q right from McCartney at the start. They were a fair old pile, some great interviews in them too. You're right though, I stopped buying it over 10 years ago, as the quality declined.

The Word was a magazine in its own right as I recall.

There was a point a few years ago when for some reason it stopped reviewing music seriously and started reviewing according to what was "in". Occasionally buy Mojo now.

Buy Mojo, Uncut and Record Collector but Q has been terrible for years. Really boring. Surprised more haven't gone to wall really.

2009 Jacko croaked, I was at Glasto, there was "I killed Jacko" t shirts on sale by lunchtime the same day.

Football handbook, I loved that, every week used to rush to the VG to grab my copy. I have all 3 volumes that they did in their green binders. It was stopped before they ever did the feature on Boro. Loads of articles on Bioro players but they stopped a volume early

I can remember an article on Stan Cummins in one episode...also vaguely remember some coaching article featuring Jack Charlton too?

Stan Cummins was 'Risng Star' in issue 1, which was why I started spending my pocket money on them. Not sure about the Jack Charlton bit as he had left Boro when these started as John Neal has a go at Big Jack, complaining about the pressure he has put on Stan by saying he would be 1st million pound player.

Cummins was my favourite player at the time - I was even stopped from calling my budgie after him:cry:.

OMG, you've still got them??? That's brilliant...and I wonder if the Big Jack thing was from some other publication? I used to get mine delivered from Maude's in Normanby rather than collecting!
