Well that's it for the English Leagues...

I heard that the new super league will be free to watch. That may impact the Sky deal and take away money from the Premier League.

Free to watch? That's going to drive a coach and horses through the deals that Sky and TNT have. 64 teams involved two leagues with promotion and relegation. That's very different.

But how can the superleague generate revenue without selling tv rights? Unless the Saudis are involved of course.

All the major clubs will release statements reiterating that they now want no part of it, and little will change.

Real Madrid and Barcelona will continue to **** in to the wind.

One impact is that rumours are going around that the proposed changes to the Champions League may be scrapped.
Very interesting. I took a look at the new ESL proposals earlier and it's effectively the new UCL/UEL/UECL but with promotion/relegation. Teams move between the leagues dependent on performance and 20 new teams enter the lowest level each season, replacing the 20 poorest performers from the previous season.

For me it's going head to head with the new UEFA structure, as there's no way both could exist simultaneously (ESL matches played midweek).

The key differentiator is the free to air model. If (and it's a big if) the ESL can make enough money in sponsorship/backing that it becomes more commercially viable to operate at that level (versus the existing UEFA structure) I think this will fly.

Ball will firmly be back in the PL's hands as to whether they are expelled from that competition, although I'm guessing they wouldn't be, as in effect, it would replace the existing UCL?

My thinking on this remains just to wish them well and hold the door open. The wealth of the clubs hogging the Champions League spots has distorted our domestic competitions for decades now. Just go. But you must leave all domestic competition and if you want to come back you can apply to rejoin the EFL one division lower for each year you are absent.

I do wonder how this will shake out in the future. With a lot of American money involved will they want two teams from Manchester or London? Are Chelsea still one of the "Big Six"? Villa? N*wc*stle?

Surely if UEFA and FIFA cannot ban teams from joining they could still exclude teams from their competitions?

People seem to think that these games will be played in the uk Italy Spain etc.

I think it will he like f1 and how the NFL is going a global travelling circus.

Well be the tourists.

Would you even really notice with teams coming up from the Championship to take their place?

Liverpool - Middlesbrough
Chelsea - Millwall
Arsenal - Watford
Spurs - QPR
Man Utd - Blackburn
Man City - Preston

or we could just graft a few SPL teams in there..

Liverpool - Celtic
Chelsea - Hibernian
Arsenal - Aberdeen
Spurs - Hearts
Man Utd - Rangers
Man City - Dundee

to be honest I wouldn’t even miss them.

Let them join the creepy American franchise league.. we keep the real competitions.. they only get away with it if we let them. Glory supporters taking over football? Not having it. Some sort of Harlem Globetrotters Circus. I can see it killing off the Saudi league and maybe even MLS..
dunno adding Scottish teams to the SPL is unfair on the remaining teams in Scotland actually no different from the teams leaving to form a European super league

42 teams over 4 leagues.. they could just have two leagues of 18.. I would say its dead right now.. never ending Celtic or Rangers.. it would open up Scottish football imo

Yeah.. I get the irony of slagging off a super league and then proposing that the prem ships in half a dozen SPL teams.. maybe that's the way football has to go?

USA is HUGE and they only have 29 MLS teams!

On the subject of Scottish football, I have long thought that one way to re-invigorate the League Cups would be to combine the English and Scottish competitions into a "British Cup". But dropping just half a dozen Scottish teams into Division 1 in England would be a nonsense.

English football does not need and should not embrace the backward and discriminatory nonsense they base their league on.

dunno why does Football have to go anywhere or change, it seems to be doing just fine as it is why do they need more money, but to be honest I am not that bothered if the so called big teams do fck off good riddance and all that think they lost touch with reality a long time ago

For clubs like ours who will never be able to properly compete with the Manchester clubs, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal etc - a more competitive Premier League with the ‘have’s’ swanning off to Europe sounds pretty good. Happy to travel up and down the country to watch Boro rather than jump on board planes to Europe or watch our games on tv when they are played in the likes of Saudi, the Far East and America on the money grab tour of the new European League. The loss of Sky revenue will be difficult but it might finally bring the indefensible players salaries under control. UTB

Barcelona and Real Madrid are the big drivers behind the Super League. They know they're finding it more and more difficult to compete with the premier league finances and don't want to be left behind.

SIX premier league clubs.. it would be an absolute joke and ruin the clubs involved imo..
MLS + Saudi Pro League = THIS BULLSHYT

It would defo end up being a retirement home for the super star players.. who wins what? The Super League Title? Worthless.. complete joke.

Don’t forget Juventus as well as they are also the driving force Barca and real are key players but Italy was also involved.

As long as it’s still 11 humans kicking a ball around then it’s still basically same game. The game evolves into a moneyed game where the expectation isn’t perhaps winning (Man U, Chelsea spring to mind) but more on expanding the brand and the product on and off the field. In some ways I’m for it as it does give opportunities to people to be part of the game who would under the 20th century mode would be maybe doing something else.

Going to be difficult to stop them leaving. Just make sure that they understand what level of lower league football they would return to if they wanted to exit ESL.

I wonder if players could be sanctioned in terms of not being eligible to represent their national teams?

There is a risk of blowback against Eufa mind. Just look how bad LIV made the USPGA look.

The thought of a Premier league without City, United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Spurs has its appeal tbh.
