We will do what’s necessary to protect our democracy

There's a lot of intentional state sponsored de stabilizing of our country society and culture going on. In fact across most of western europe. Its been happening for some time. Hopefully some people are starting to have the balls to stand up and call it out. Just listen to what people like Douglas Murray have to say, Jordan Petersen. Its not all , the nasty racist right wing , white man. Facts speak louder than your faux outrage.
 
It’s all just so bizarre, like they think the entire country will forget the hate, Islamophobia and division their party have cultivated for years, and people will now hold them up as some heroic knights in shining armour standing up to extremists and fighting to protect all that is decent and honourable! It’s the most ridiculously transparent act of gaslighting an entire nation that has ever occurred. A desperate act by a Government of incompetent charlatans and grifters who know the game is up.

They can’t seriously believe anybody will fall for it, surely?

After all that has happened 3,731 people still voted Tory.

Great post. It's their last throw of the dice. Whatever they do, their ratings are flatlining so they confect some urgent threat that they and only they can confront. What makes it so insidious and so flagrantly cynical is that by calling out right-wing extremism - conveniently ignoring, naturally, that much of it resides in their own party - they are pretending to oppose the very attitudes they are seeking here to 'monetise' electorally. 'We've sacked Anderson, but basically, he's right: democracy is under threat from the spectre of 'Islamism'. Obviously, we don't really believe that but we have no more cards left.'

As you say, gaslighting, of a cynical and desperate sort.

They do .. and it's probably their best chance of getting back in ( as morally wrong as it is )
 
We've f***ed you financially, destroyed the inner cities by allowing non-dom's to buy up property and price everyone else out of the market whilst reducing spending on critical services and care, almost broken the NHS, raised taxes, ensured a culture of mates rates and cronyism prevailed,,,but trust us, we're going to defend you from the very thing we promote...hatred division and extremism.
