People said we needed to talk about Karanka 3 games into the 2014/15 season. Last year they said the squad was miles off it and we’d be in the bottom half looking down rather than up. They’re probably the same people who say we ‘scraped’ promotion in 2016, said Hackney had no chance at this level after his loan at Scunthorpe and that Steffen was a liability because he dropped a cross at QPR. They said Tommy Smith was sh*t, and Akpom was a waste of space, that Lenihan wasn’t good enough, that we had no chance without Tav, that Warnock performed some kind of footballing miracle and always say that an ‘experienced’ coach is required to help Carrick whenever we lose.
There are issues for the coach and the recruitment people to resolve but the way some people react to our games just seems OTT IMO. It’s all about Chuba and Archer today but we had them for the Coventry games last season. How did those games go?
Look at Southampton now, for example. They’ve conceded three in the first half at home to Norwich. Every single team has really big issues to resolve, it’s the second week of August. It’s so, so, so early to be going in so big with such definitive opinions. Some people just cannot wait to stick the knife in.
I will no doubt be shot down by the usual suspects but this sort of posting seems to happen every year, right back to when I started posting in around 2008/09ish. There’s always a sense that some people lack perspective after a defeat.
We need some players in of course. There are things that need sorting out. But, again, people were loving it on Tuesday night and now look at it. Beat Huddersfield next week and nobody cares about today.
We will be absolutely fine this season. It’s only my opinion obviously but we’ll be fine. Just have a bit of patience. Things are absolutely nowhere near the levels of ‘badness’ that some are claiming.
I know what’s coming next in terms of insults, but it’s just my opinion. This has happened on here every August for 14 or 15 years, whether we finish top middle of bottom. Usually somewhere near the top as it happens.
