Depends on what happens with Clarke and McNair.

If Clarke can't get fit and McNair goes then it's looking really thin with Fry, Lenihan and RVDB. Smith and Dijksteel could potentially play at CB in a crisis, as can Howson but it feels like a bit of a tightrope.

Assuming that at least 1 of them is available then it looks ok. I do think that our main problem defensively is not the quality of our defenders, it's the way we're set up.

We've got a load of 'auxilliary centre halfs, but only one 'proper' one, and then is not the strongest. That's a precarious position to be in.

We don't yet know how good the Archer and Giles replacements are (assuming that we don't get Archer back). Engel looks like he might be broadly equal. LL looks like he might have a better all-round game than Archer but not be as clinical.

Most importantly, although we don't know yet who will be a hit and who a flop, it is a team that could grow together for the next 2-3 years.

I think Rogers could nail 10 within weeks ,but will take patience. He will be nothing on Akpom.
He has however miles more about him than Silvera and McGree.
(Not seen Gilbert).

I would love Archer back to be our CF, but can't see it sadly. Latte L would then be bench CF.
Still concerned at CM, as Barlaser is not good enough even as cover for H&H.
 
With the players we've got at the minute with the arrival of Latte Lath and Engels, we have 23 senior players out of a maximum 25 man squad.

This will drop to 22 when the Akpom deal is confirmed.

The likes of Hackney, Coburn and Rogers are classed as 'U21' players so dont count towards that total. Because of the date of birth Gilbert and Bilongo are classed as senior.

So room for 3 unless theres more outgoings to come.
 
Posters seem to be discounting Coburn - his is young and developing - 10 goals for Bristol Rovers did not set the World on fire, but I think he will get better. Look at Danny Graham and even Charlie Wyke they started slowly but picked up just after they were 21. Josh is 21 in December, but he seems physically to have developed a bit earlier.

I certainly put Coburn in Bruce's list for Muniz.

Based on his list a CF is required, if Akpom goes. - loan market? Ross Stewart?

Also a central midfielder - could be Willock?

Not sure anyone is discounting him as a player, more that there's a lot of noise about him going to Plymouth for the season. If we do the business we want, it sounds like a done deal

Plymouth have good momentum are a championship team with a good brand of football and conidence if he goes there this will give coburn the opportunity and platform to kick on and prove his worth at championship level.

If we are to bring in better players at the moment i.e. an archer then the loan makes sense but if we where to sign a tom cannon or other young forward from a prem club I think i is doing coburn a disjustice.

Also if lath does well will he go to the african cup along with dieng in January?

I suspect that management want Coburn to work on his over all game to support his finishing and be better suited to us Right now, he doesn't link enough or do enough out of possession, that'll happen but it isn't his natural game, so he needs the miles on the clock to learn that and come back better suited to us.
 
Coburn to Plymouth? Why are we so opposed to playing the players we have developed through our academy and insist on getting in players equally as unproven from abroad?

Lath has 150 career games, more than twice as many as Coburn, so surely is more proven?

We’ve only had two games. It’s not just Lath, we’ve also brought in an Aussie goalkeeper when we could have developed our own. Previously we brought in an American striker who was worse than those we already had and let a promising young centre back go to a rival last year to only bring in a promising young centre back from the Netherlands.

Lath may have played more than Coburn, but is unproven in our league, like Coburn, indeed isn’t he older? I have no idea what he’s like because quite frankly I have no interest in the Leagues he’s played in. He may end up being great, but personally wonder why so many are prepared to give these lads a chance but not our own?

So the 3 new signings mean we're up to 24 - with Payero leaving?
One space left for a free agent (if there's a week left of that window, which I think I read on here?)
