We are top of the league

I think Sunderland are going down next season if they don't invest the Clark money wisely. They've been in freefall since they binned Mogga.

I suppose Pompey and Derby are relatively strong promoted teams; bad news for lower half survivors this year.

On the other hand, I wouldn't be entirely surprised if a team relegated from the PL really struggled next year. I can see SU struggling, and I think Forest might if they came down (though I think they'll probably survive).

We have 22 points from our last 11 games - what impressed me is that some big players have missed all those games or most of them.

Lenihan
Smith
Fry
Hackney
McGree
Forss
McNair

5 of the 11 teams played are also in the top 7 and 6 of the 11 games were away from home. So on balance those 11 games have been tougher than average.

We've sorted out the defence by bringing Clarke in and getting dieng back.
We have played lath which is scaring teams into dropping back giving us more room to play in.
We've stopped playing out from the back when under too much pressure to do so.

I think the most important thing is the pressure is off. They were knocking it around with confidence and arrogance yesterday as there was nowt riding on it.

I think Sunderland have problems, players look like they don’t give a **** most weeks, squad not remotely strong enough to mount a promotion push next season, managerless and the owners model has fallen off a cliff and they don’t want to invest anymore money.

Five quality signings and we can finally smash the league ! Providing we don’t lose our best players this summer 😳

Reminds me of when we finished really strongly under Mowbray one season.
Loads of summer optimism which seemed justified when we started the next season like a steam train.
But the squad wasn't deep enough and the train eventually came off the tracks.
Thankfully this year has shown we have got a deep squad. We're going this with 5 or so first team players missing.

It's been the same the last 2 seasons. Finished well under Wilder 21/22. Finished well under Carrick 22/23. We've failed to carry it into the next season both times. Mainly because we've sold important first team players and our new signings have failed to hit the ground running.

Eh? We didn't finish well last season at all, we won 2 of our last 10 games, playoffs included.

No Dieng or Latte Lath in either of those matches.
Shouldn't have needed them to beat Rotherham. Latte Lath wasn't in the form he is now earlier in the season even when he was playing. Easy to look at him now as a big player for us now that he's scored 10 goals in his last 11 games, but around that time he'd had a run being kept out the team by Josh Coburn who wasn't really scoring many either.

I think looking at this run of results where we're the only team they beat just winds me up even more, honestly.

We always worry about the ones that got away.

But what about the breaks we got?
I don't think we were in danger of relegation either way, but that ridiculous red card for Norwich changed the match and our trajectory. Had we had VAR that would have been overturned on the spot.

Things could have been better, but they could have easily been worse too

Also Under Wilder in 2022 we seemed to struggle after the Peterboro away game at the beginning of April - losing at home to Hull, Fulham, Huddersfield and at Preston.
