One thing you can't really teach is reading of the game, and anticipating where the ball will be, loads of very good "players" really struggle with this, but equally some not as good players outscore them, as they just know where to be.
You absolutely can teach this, it's just a skill like anything else, and practice and knowledge make you better at it.
Britt is ok at finding space within 10 yards of the goal, not brilliant but ok. Most of his goals for us were headers and tap ins from that range. Of course they count just as much as dribbling around 5 players and chipping the keeper, but with Britt it needs to be created into a near unmissable chance by others.
There have been a lot of excuses made for Britts failure with is, and it was a failure, but after 4 years there are no excuses. He just wasn't very good.
Also, the team need to cater for what the strikers are good at, i.e high balls for those good in the air or strong, but not for those who are short/ weak/ fast., there's other ways to play to suit the latter.
absolutely agree, Britt was only good when you get players wide and high up the pitch and get pin point perfect crosses in. Even then good defenders got there first and negated any opportunities.
You have to have more in your locker than just being able to tap it in if the perfect cross is there. You've got to create a bit for yourself, you have to beat a man occasionally, you've got to show pace and movement to run in behind. Britt barely showed any of this. Only a handful of goals in 4 years where he ran in behind, one shot from out of the box that went in, I can't really remember him dribbling beyond players to create his own opportunity.
Britt's a goalscorer, but not much else (same as Rhodes), but it's the hardest box to tick.
Agree they both have that knack of finding a yard, what Rhodes does beyond Britt is he'll hold it up a bit, he will pester the defender when his team don't have possession, that again is another failing for Britt. If all you have is finishing, you need to be utterly exceptional at it, if you are leaving your team defending with 10 men then you need to be absolutely top class at finishing. I put Britt in that same class as Boyd. On pure numbers seems a decent player, but, you see that those goals are almost exclusively against the poor sies, almost all put on his toe by better players, and when not scoring they are just watching the game happen around them. You can't be that player in the modern game and your team be successful.
