We’re just lacking that killer ball from mf

What we need positionally and financially is for all the starts to align and for us to achieve the impossible..

We had no one on the bench to change things up attacking wise and I honestly think that was to only difference between us last night. They were able to get our number and nullify us, we were fixed also their fresher players would have made a difference to. We were the team that had to adapt to them we were on the back foot.

Strangely given our poor goal scoring record over the past few years and failing to score last night I think the problems are still at the back, particularly if we play wing backs. In 3-5-2 we need solid centre halves and a proper holding midfielder, Morsy hopefuly addresses that, but we are still missing the solid centre half to play alongside Hall. I would prefer four at the back, as our wing backs can't defend, but are reasonable going forward, in that case we need a left back and another centre half!

I was disappointed with our second half, but thinking about it, I can't recall them having a shot on goal in it. I thought we were very comfortable at the back. It always looks worse when you're chasing the game for a long time.

I thought the front two caused them problems first half, but were largely snuffed out second. I agree with the OP that the bit of flair from midfield was the missing piece.

I think Watford played a Karanka-style game: get in front, then choke it. I was doing a watchalong with a friend whose a Watford fan; he sounded like many of ours during the AK years, particularly when Britt headed over late on. However, their change in emphasis meant they attacked little in the second half, but were good a stifling us.

I'm not alarmed by last night; if anything, I'm more convinced we'll be in healthy midtable.

Was surprised we didn't see Browne when we might have been chasing the game at the end, which suggests to me either Warnock doesn't rate him or was generally happy with a narrow defeat away to one of this season's probable promotion contenders?

I'd have taken Spence off for Browne and Johnson for Coulson. Switch to 4-4-2, with Djiksteel, Hall, McNair and Coulson in defence and Tav and Browne on the wings. To me it would have made sense to at least try something different as we didn't look like scoring. Coulson driving forward with the ball would have at least given them something new to worry about.
