Wasps nest

Yes, wasps nest, that famous topic we all love to discuss.

I’ve just found one in my goose gog bush when I was randomly picking them off. Unknowingly, I put my hand near the nest and got stung and a small swarm chased me off. I’m sure it was funny watching a 61 year old man screaming like a little girl. 🤣🤣🤣

I’ve knocked the nest down and now there is a swarm of wasps going crazy in the garden.

Will they rebuild the nest in the same place?

They’re unlikely to rebuild I’d think. I’d just leave them be and see if they disperse. If not I’d get a professional to remove them 👍

You need to pour a pan of hot soapy water on it, once the wife has done the dishes first that is.

If its bees they're really important for growing veg, fruits, nuts, flowers etc, maybe get a local bee keeper to come take them
They’re certainly weren’t bees and we encourage bees into our garden with our planting of wild flowers, etc.

Normally I wouldn’t have bothered with the wasps nest and have had them on the fence were the local thieves use to climb over. This was a small new nest right next to the entrance of the garden shed were we keep the lawn mower, etc.

There is only me who eats the gooseberries and I don’t mind the local wild life sharing them. I’m is also good to see the birds in and out of this bush.

Anyway, said wasps nest no longer exists and the gooseberry bush is half the size it use to be.

The moral of the story is, don’t be a greedy git and pick the biggest goose gog. 🤣🤣🤣

Wasps are phenomenally misunderstood. They are the gardeners friend as they eat their own bodyweight in aphids every day, pollinating crops too. They're a vital piece of the ecology and food chain jigsaw, but I understand the need to be wary of them if they are in the proximity of the house. People get stung because they try to swat them instead of just leaving them. If they settle on your arm, they'll buzz off after a few seconds as they don't like our smell or taste. We shouldn't kill wasps unnecessarily.
