Was Richard Liburd any good for us and why did he go?

My memories of Liburd were mainly how he never panicked, but just kept dribbling with the ball, no matter how deep the hole he dug for himself.

Plus he always seemed to have numorous fingers wrapped in white tape.
he did have taped fingers, I forgot that 😂

Was Neil Cox his direct replacement? I think he probably was, and being Robsons first signing, with a big fee, was always going to be picked ahead of Libird. That probably did it.

Nei cox played right back, Liburd was left sided

Did curtis switch to left back before Cox was sold?

Chris Morris replaced by Cox? Curtis moved to LB during Robbos first season.....didn't Whyte have a stint there too? 🤔🤔

I remember him signing with Derek Whyte but didnt realise he was at the club that long. As wiki says was never a fan favourite. Seem to recall him missing a penalty at wolves

Still is, according to my friend from Nottingham. Apparently Jermaine speaks quite affectionately about coming up to see his cousin play.

Liburd was a good signing from non league, but Division 1 (now Championship) was a little above his standard for me. Left back was position we needed to improve to get promoted. RL tended to run with his head and one should down which did't help his attacking play and was very right footed.

We had years of crap immobile fullbacks, so when Liburd arrived it was novel as he enjoyed having the ball. It was like playing a gangly right footed winger at left back, from memory he’d end up coming inside with the ball into danger. It was usually nervously entertaining.

He was only slight and was sometimes overpowered on diagonals by the division 2 brutalists, so though he was quite popular he was soon forgotten and offloaded when the likes of Clayton Blackmore landed.

I vaguely remember Bob Mortimer being interviewed on a tv programme that Sean Hughes presented whilst watching the boro when Liburd scored his one goal. Which I suppose is a nice epitaph.

It was all quite representative of the late Lennie era. I liked the whole thing immensely.
