Warnocks rejects - a thing of the past

Like I said.......rather than have 5 on the bench, give them an opportunity to sample the first team matchday preparation etc. Doesn't have to play them, nothing to lose has he?
And miss actually playing matches? That really depends on their stage of development. Kokolo, Sivi and the likes are still at a stage where under 23 games are useful for their development. Taking them to games to not play now may hinder them for a few reasons, one they'll miss a game, two it may give them false expectations as to where they are and three it may actually dent their confidence when they're dropped back out of the team. They may not even feel ready yet, which could make things worse especially if you end up being forced to use them and they perform badly.

It isn't as simple as just chucking them in and out of the first team. It can completely ruin a player if you take them, don't play them and then drop them back into the under 23s.

No, if there was an U-23 game the same day of course they would have to play. But for, say, a midweek game, nothing spoiling, give them the opportunity to sample the first team matchday preparation etc. Manager would have to tell them straight not give them a false sense of expectation, but be good experience for them. Like these random players asked to train with the England national team - they know there is not a chance they will make the matchday squad but just to be part of it.......🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️.

Maradonna was taken to the 86 world cup wit hargentina and told he wouldn't play. They had him there because he was the future, and giving him that experience would make his first world cup game that much easier.

Erm…..think you are completely mistaken here.

Maradona wasn’t picked for the 78 WC in Argentina as the manager thought he was too young at 18. He was first choice for Argentina in 82, then captain in 86 when they won it….he was 26 at this point.

Just wrong year, 78, doh! I seen this in an interview with maradonna. He said he was in the "team" he may have been not part of the squad and taken as a non-playing member, but he was definately there, according to him.....

No he never as the fact they youngsters used that name because that’s how they felt warnocks rejects. He even chose to have an empty seat on the bench than give them a chance.

As for josh he only used him as he has no one else.
Come on zorro, that is really just not true.
He has opened the way up for a raw young lad to notch 4 league goals in about 150 minutes.

The 1978 World Cup was in Argentina. I'm pretty sure Boro U23 players are at Boro home games, and I don't think we ever played without a full bench at home either. We take a squad to away game as players travelling to and from an away game would either not be back in time for a game on Sunday or may not be sufficiently rested after getting back from the game.

Why it’s true

he loaned out the rest such was as his contempt.
What nonsense. They're loaned out to play senior football at a level where they might actually have the body strength to compete. He's kept those capable and string enough here, Jones and Coburn.

How many are pulling trees up at their loan clubs, they can't do it in League 2 or Scotland but you want them in the first team?

Sounds like their egos are getting the better if them, perhaps from so much praise being dished out to a bog standard academy?

Never understood the 5-6 players on the bench either. Stick a couple of U-23s on there, great experience for them just being in and around the first team squad.
I understand it.

No point messing people about if they're not going to get on, might as well give them moe time with the U-23's or put them on loan.

You're not messing people about, you're getting them tuned in to what's expected when you are part of the first team squad and starting to feel the pressure of being part of the first team squad in a stadium of thousands of spectators, it's a big shift from turning out for the under 23s in empty parks.

I disagree, it would **** me off travelling if there was zero chance of playing, there's more to gain by going on loan, or actually playing elsewhere.

They gain experience when they're good enough to be a used sub.

You've got to be ready to go out on loan, we have players out now not getting a game, not ready for the standard they're loaned out at.

If they're not ready for the standard they're loaned to, then they're nowhere near the standard of the championship, and even further from the standard required to be putting minutes in for a top 6 side, which is where we should be aiming.

Allowing younger players a spot on the matchday squad can't be spun, for me, as a bad thing providing they are not taking a potential player from the numbers.

Travelling a few hours to an away game on a modern coach is hardly a hardship and they might benefit for when they are ready.

I can't see a single reasonable point to argue against it, to be honest.

That isn't true - Warnock praised Josh Coburn in the summer saying how hard he had worked and how he had built himself up and that he would be part of the first team squad.
As for rejects. It is a tried and tested formula that promising young players go away and get experience and bridge that gap between youth team and first team. That is the way I read it and that Djed Spence, Hayden Coulson, Nathan Wood and Lewis Wing would all have another window of opportunity to impress at Boro at the end of the campaign.
