I don't begrudge Warnock, his spin. Everyone on the after dinner circuit needs to present a story that is entertaining, interesting and, overall, paints the speaker in a good light. (The occasional self-deprecating story about mistakes helps make the rest seem more believable.) Moore, as you say, would have been a good Warnock target man but clearly we were planning on Warnock being a short-term appointment. Paying Moore more than he was on at Cardiff where he looks to be about the top earner would have been irresponsible and his goal record (roughly 50 goals in 150 championship matches) is bang average. He would have joined Ikpeazu in the wilderness when Wilder turned up.

The big risk factor with watmore wasn’t his goal record it was his injury one that’s why we will have offered the limited offer we did.

Not sure I'd trust a thing Warnock says (despite liking the bloke). From memory, and I admit I may be wrong, Watmore was a winger for Sunderland. When we signed him we played him out wide. He got moved up front when we started playing 2 up front because he was scoring goals from out wide. Can't see the recruitment team turning down a winger that doesn't score loads of goals because that wasn't his role. I can fully understanding them not wanting to take a risk on a player that has had multiple ACL injuries. We had players like that in the past that never fully recovered. I can well believe the Kieffer Moore story though because we seem to chase players that we end up missing out on regularly so that sounds very familiar.

Watmore can be a frustrating player because his finishing isn't great but that comes from my above point, he's not really a striker. His attitude is top notch and his workrate is second to none. That combined with his ability running with the ball means he gets himself into scoring positions regularly, and positions that more traditional strikers never get in to. He is the perfect squad player because he will give you 60 minutes of wearing the defenders down or he will give you 30 mins of chasing tired defenders and that sort of thing can get you goals out of nowhere.

what miracles? At best he did average with an average squad. Not exactly pulling up trees is it?

Warnock is a self promoter for sure

Akpom went from 'my number 1 target' to 'the club brought him in'.

Warnock was great for 6 months and had a immediate impact in sorting the team out.

He does however seem to struggle after his initial burst at a lot of clubs and rarely lasts more than 3 years anywhere.

Watmore clearly was a risky signing.

When we signed him in November 2020, he was injury prone, had a poor goal record and hadn't played a minute since February.

The club would rightly have been hesitant about signing him.
It's not something I'd criticise them for.

Even now, when he's proven to be one of our best free transfers in a long time, the medical staff have to constantly manage his issues to ensure he can play.

Yeah he sorted the team out and got us results with the players at his disposal. Call it boring if you like but there's no point trying to play expansive football when you don't have the squad to do it.
The next step is to give him some money and get to the next level, something the club didn't do.....

His recent jobs since Sheff U have all followed a similar pattern though big wow at the start and then no long term progression.

I'm going to be controversial now by comparing him to Rioch - big wow but then players stop reacting well to the man management techniques, Pallister for instance.

Calling the club out.
Calling referees and the Referees Association out.
Calling other managers out and claiming it was his team when we were winning after he`d gone......
Its either referees, the recruitment team or someone else - when its a failure.....or Chris Wilder.
That`s why I placed a "?" at the beginning of the post.
Was it really "recruitment" or Warnock - who couldnt get what he wanted?

What you mean when he took no hopers Cardiff City in the Premier League for the first time in their history....I think that's a 'Big Wow' don't you.....???

Although not a massive fan of Warnock, he generally did a decent job at Boro. Watmore has proved a great signing and no doubt Moore would have been a good signing too. He went to Bournemouth after leaving Cardiff, so probably would have done okay at Boro. Can't imagine him not being our main striker. We do seem to take ages negotiating/signing off on deals. Glad Warnock kept pushing for Watmore - like he said, he wasn't asking for much and you would have thought there would be some room in the budget, otherwise why ask him to join in, unless it was just a favour. We have so many players on good wages, that it seems a no brainer to try a few gambles, like Watmore, Bamba, Peltier, etc.

We wouldn't pay Moore what he wanted? Again he makes out like Moore just wanted an average championship salary and we were being stingy. But seem to recall Moore was on a very high championship wage at Cardiff and didn't they end up in financial issues or something not long after?

Very easy to say we should just pay what a player wants and moan about penny pinching when you only plan on hanging around for a year isn't it?

If you appoint a manager like Warnock you buy Warnock players. Otherwise what's the point in employing Neil Warnock.

Similarly if you appoint Chris wilder you buy Chris wilder players.

Let us hope that Carrick is fully on board with the way the club is working now. Because the previous two appointments have been F***ing stupid.

If a manager lasts 3 years they have done exceptionally well. Most last a year and a half. People were calling for Karanka to go after two and a half years, having saved the team from relegation, got us into the playoffs and then got us promoted.

The 'warnock players' are so obvious to me. Bamba / Crooks / Uche / Watmore / Peltier. The rest? I'm really not convinced.

You'd have have to say we got more than our moneys worth out of all of the above.

To come through the injury ordeals he has shows tremendous inner strength as well I’m delighted for him.

Real Madrid wrote him a great letter when he was injured wishing him all the best that’s when you know this kid has talent.

Just shows how poor and rigid our hierarchy and recruitment dept are that they couldn’t see what warnock seen !!!!!!!!!
