Vote Labour and Teesworks Could be the Making of Teesside - So Says Steve Gibson

Maybe he thought that's what was best for Teesside at the time? Or even best for himself, it's his right. He's entitled to change his mind as are we all. Floating voters base their opinions on what is happening or happened recently, absolutely nothing wrong with that.
It's definitely the right thing to do, rather than having blind faith with one party no matter what.

This is probably why Labour never have a good run in power. They are their own worst enemy. Why attack everyone who wasn't born with a red rossette? I don't get it man.

If one If you said "Houchen is a crook, stealing public money" everyone else would be "too right, here here"
Gibbo does it and explains why and you ignore the message and just attack the man giving a message you want to hear? Man it's odd behaviour
I completely disagree with you. It’s like when a Tory defects to the Labour Party and people claim it as some sort of victory. I don’t get that. These people have actively campaigned for, openly endorsed and supported, and voted in favour of policies designed to punch down rather than up. There should be no way anyone who’s engaged in these behaviour can just switch allegiances and everyone forgets what went before. They’re doing it because it’s politically convenient for them, not us.

Gibson has endorsed Tory politicians and candidates who’ve inflicted a brutal and wholly ideological austerity on a nation for 14 years and caused untold damage, death and destruction, all of which could’ve been avoided. You can’t just let that slide because he’s decided to stick a red rosette on his lapel. These people need to be held to account. They should have to explain what the hell they thought they were doing for all this time before they’re allowed anywhere near the Labour Party imo.

I only spoke with Steve Gibson this morning.

My first experience with Ben Houchen was the media launch of the Radio One Big Weekend. Do you recall when it came to Stewart Park - James Arthur and all.
I was invited to the event to launch it. Where's Ben Houchen I asked?
He has pulled out of backing the event.
What?!?
Yes, he has objected to his name being below Middlesbrough Mayor Dave Budd on the press release.

I am not making this up. All the local and regional media were there and Ben Houchen wasn't and neither was the combined authority's financial backing.

He was later persuaded to come back on board. But for one of the biggest events on Teesside in a decade Ben Houchen had thrown a strop and a tantrum. If he wasn't going to be in the front of the publicity then he was pulling out and pulling the Tees Valley Combined Authority out with him.
That's interesting Rob, coz he has gone on FB and told folk how he made that event happen...porky pies from Ben again

Bit odd of Gibbo to jump from supporting the Tories to supporting Labour…wonder if he has half an eye on the upcoming GE I think you are right to an extent, but what we need to be mindful of is that SG is a business man who has a lot invested in the area. At the time of this article he will have felt that the Tories were going to keep power and in order to get what he needed for his business and the people he employs, was to back the Tories. Fast forward to now and he can see that the Tories have had 14 years and not done what they said they would and instead ruined the UK . So, in his mind Labour will win the GE and in order to get the best deal for our area we need to have a Labour Mayor. For the best deal for him, his business, the many hundreds of people he employs, he needs a Labour Mayor. I don't think he is wrong for backing Ben all those years back as he was thinking for his business and employees...he's just doing the same again this time and knows the Tories are done for

Why was he endorsing Tories for so long. He’s changed his tune now but openly advocating for Tory candidates is disgusting behaviour and very, very damaging to our region and our people.

So no one can change their minds? No one can see I situation and go 'oh, I might have been wrong there'?

I'm sorry I can't get with that sort of thinking at all. It leads to bad things. I'm sure there are some Tories out there who aren't fascists, but using your logic, thye have to see the fascsit things the Tories are doing and go "oh, that's the route we are going down, let's embrace fascism"

Nah man, I can't think of circumstances where this is a good idea. It's why we STILL have brexiteers. It's painfully obvious it has failed. But some people think "oh I can't change my mind, it's not right" so continue to support it even though they can see it's a disaster.

Why don't you say that to Steve Gibson?
He was actually in there negotiating those jobs and knows just who is an asset and who a liability.
People would probably say things to Steve Gibson if they could get an audience with him like you do. Boro fans in my experience are not backwards in coming forward.....Steve just needs to make himself more available to talking to and interacting with us minions!!!!!

People can and do change their minds all the time. Politicians and local businessman with clout, power and influence switching from one party to another, I don’t think it should be as easy as that. Someone like Gibson doing it after everything the Tories did and do to our region will always stick in the craw. He can switch back now but it doesn’t excuse what’s gone before imo.

I didn’t abuse you, I called you out at the time because you lied
I will even tell you when it was
23 April, St George’s day 2023
You posted a picture claiming you had taken it while out on your ‘St Georges day walk’
Unfortunately for you , you posted a picture from the top of our road showing some fence work going on.
The picture had a clear blue sky ( it was actually grey clouds and a tad damp)
They was also a car in the photo which is only here ( or was as he has a different car now) during the week and definitely never here on a Sunday.
You lied, I proved you lied and you didn’t like it
Will you two have this conversation in private please...it's obvious you both have an issue with each other, so go and have a chat about it in a private chat and see if you can both be adults about it.

Ben Houchen is either the most inept politician for giving so much we the people of Teesside own without scrutiny or very corrupt they are the only two possibilities when the NAO inquiry concludes ( Gove's did not look for corruption so found none) he will be kicked out the lords for his ineptitude or at the pleasure of his majesty for corruption i hope he tries to take me to court because one of the other will be established
PS i could cope with a Tory mayor who was transparent and honest with is actions

I have no issues with him at all, he like everyone else can vote how their please.
If he calls me tomorrow for help then I'd be the first person who will offer it.

Fine, but if it helps unseat Houchen then I'm happy for him to say it. Ut doesn't absolve him of previous sins, and I still would hide my shoes but I can't in good faith criticise someone for saying something I wanted him to say anyway

What a sad fella.

Yep. That is also why businesses are infiltrating the Labour party at the highest level and the leadership is welcoming them and selling its soul to capitalism.

I have little expectations from an incoming labour government. I see they have ditched their commitment to ending zero hours contracts. They could give Steve Redgrave a lesson in rowing backwards. They are now working for the corporations.

That's appalling behaviour. I'd ask him whether or not he realises who you are.

Ian is absolutely correct ( I nearly choked saying that lol)
It is nothing personal at all
We have different views and I standby my comments but I would be more than willing to sit and have a cuppa with him.
However having just got in from work and had a good chuckle reading through the comments
I have been called a troll, a sleuth and god knows what else but guess what ?
All I have done throughout is ask questions and challenge, not abusive to one single person but every single one who replied has offered nothing but vitriol and slurs, not one response which could lead to any sort of debate.
I believe that says more about them than it does me.

Proof that people, even with fundamental beliefs, should still be allowed to change their mind on them:
