Villa bid for Morgan Rogers

Did you like that setups for the coburn goal where he lifted it over the keeper a few weeks ago?

That absolutely perfectly weighted outside of the foot ball from a really straight angle, which he had the vision to see in real time and weight absolutely perfectly beyond to the defender but slow enough that coburn could get there before the keeper??

Watch it again. Watch the inside match day camera angle. Will tell you this now. Jones, forss, greenwood, etc can not play that pass. Most players on our squad don't have the capability to open up a defence from nothing like that.

You either have that or you don't. That's why Aston villa are interested.

Yep. I think he’d look even better with smarter players around him. It’s the Rochemback paradox. Plays a fantastic ball into the space a top player would be, didn’t work as often when he came to Boro and people thought he was ***** 😂

I just don't see what a move to Villa does for Rogers. Villa have shown they don't play young talent, they loan them out and sell them on.

Rogers is playing regularly for Boro and more importantly he is developing as a player - how much he can develop who knows, but he won't develop at the same pace signing for Villa.

This is one where the coaches have to assess if he has reached his peak as far as playing for Boro is concerned. If they think he can develop further playing here, the player and his advisers need to be sat down and this pointed out.

Maybe there is a case for offering an increased contract and telling the player the club will be happy to sell if he continues to develop and as a club we don't progress to the same extent.

It’s on odd position to be in when one of the main reasons why he may not want to leave would be the opportunity to win silverware . Yet he could be leaving for club a league above and a top currently top 6

Having already once been bought buy a top club and not getting near the 1st team he should be very wary of repeating the trick. At the least, another 6 months here is better for him.

Message to Aston Villa.

FOXTROT OSCAR! (y)
If the offer is as posted above then it’s derisory for a player who is under contract, has not proved himself yet in the Championship and one that we arguably bought in to resurrect his fledgling career.

I have a theory that the Villa manager thinks a lot about himself and will be masquerading as some kind of super talent spotter thinking nobody else can see the potential in an ex Man City player.

We do seem to have good relationships with Villa but there is no reason at all for us to be spending half a season developing a player in the Boro tradition for Villa to pick him up for a relatively small fee, unless in the background somebody at our end has said we are not convinced by Rogers.

City say ‘massive’ sell on % so 20% may be off the mark. Read 40% on one City message board. Can’t believe we would have accepted anything above the standard 20% but the sell clause explains why we have to push the fee as high as we think they will go.

Seems very odd for a young player, still trying to prove himself, when Villa has the financial capability to be competitive in the market and buy someone of the required quality and standard. Rogers and Coburn are a similar age. I wonder if they want to make an offer for Josh?
mmmmm

I wouldn't be surprised at 40% (on profit) especially if we paid a very low purchase fee
