VAR is appalling. Part 396: BHA v Liverpool

Possibly but we would soon be into ‘what’s an absolute clanger’
It was def a pen today and most refs would have missed it.
Its tricky

There will always be differences of opinions. It’s impossible to to create a perfect system. I’m not sure many things are perfect. But I’d say the two examples I provided are great examples of ‘clangers’, I don’t think anyone would dispute the referee made a mistake with those decisions.

Ruins the game as a spectacle, which is the ultimate problem.
If there were a review system as in cricket, with maybe ONE per game for each team's captain (with time limit, and retained if review successful) could be good.

Checking the fine end of a fart each time is just dull.

Like Mutters said the only way it should be used is the manager gets two calls a game, if used the situation is 'reset' and viewed fresh without the referee where the panel of 3 make a decision. None of this clear and obvious mistake nonsense.
It's shown more than ever that the referee's as a group are corrupt, the way they coverup for each other is genuinely distateful.

I think giving managers two or three calls is every bit as terrible as it is now. When I see a last minute winner I don't want to have to wait five minutes while a bunch of joyless old farts in a room miles away try to find a foul. Just get rid of it entirely and accept the fact that sometimes decisions will go against you and other times you'll kick the ball twice and Mike Riley won't notice and you'll win a cup.

The other thing about the "default check" is it changes the decision making of the on-field officials. Cricket has this with "no balls", which last time I watched were basically not being called unless the bowler was two paces over, because if there's a wicket it will always be checked on the telly. I watched MOTD for the first time in ages last night, and it was notable that linesmen are spotting a pretty clear offside, waiting a *long* time to see how play develops, and then sticking their flag up to express an opinion. This isn't the tweak of "wait to see if he gets the ball", this is "wait to see if a goal is scored several passes later, then ask Stockley Park to have a look".

I think the refs and team managers have a lot to answer for with VAR, other sports live with it very easily and with no controversy. If the football managers keep their mouths shut instead of trying to find excuses why their teams are being beaten then things would improve.

A lot of football clubs are run by foreign crooks, we have no idea in this very dodgy country of ours (look at the way the Government behave) how much attempted or actual bribing of officials was going on.

Anything to keep the game honest and fair is ok in my book, but the refs have to do it properly and supporters have to accept a goal, like any goal VAR or not, can be disallowed like Tav’s was against Norwich. It’s no different.

I watched the Liverpool match yesterday and all the VAR ‘reversals’ were correct and turned the game from a comfortable Liverpool win into a draw.

I don‘t see much wrong with that.

Not a fan, I'd scrap the whole thing, but I'm sick of the woe is me from Liverpool and their fans.

Always whinging about something this season.
Rose tinted glasses if you think it’s just Liverpool and their Fans. Do you not remember the the fuss we kicked up about the penalty against Norwich.

Most fans either thought the ref got it right or that he made a mistake, very few believed it was a conspiracy.
Our manager said absolutely nothing.

Klopp is calling out other managers, officials, VAR, BT Sport, UEFA, the green
keepers.
Some of their fans are genuinely saying it's part of a conspiracy to stop them winning the league again because VAR got a load of decisions correct.

Was it a penalty? It didn't look like a penalty to me.
I thought it was a penalty in normal speed.

Robertson can be a bit wild at times with his challenges (he got away with a lot last season because Liverpool were so dominant) and the Brighton player beat him to the ball, so yes a penalty.

Most penalties involve accidental contact from defenders who have been beaten by the attacker.

I can see both sides of the argument
Its better that refs are having a look at the screen at times, and some VAR 'decisions' are applying rules I dont agree with rather than being VAR itself
However it has been very frustrating at times to say the least

Is it frustrating because it takes too long or because you think some of the very marginal decisions are favouring the defenders?

Klopp wasn't arguing about the VAR decisions, he accepted those. He was banging on about Liverpool being selected to be the 12.30 kick off game on Saturday again, saying that it gives the players less time to recover after a Wednesday game. I'm not sure 2½ hours makes much difference, but perhaps it would be better to schedule a team that has played on Wednesday for the Saturday 12.30 game only if they are at home.

Oh and five subs should be allowed, according to him, even though some of the time he doesn't even use three.

I think that because Klop is high profile his interviews are highlighted but as per the link Neil warnock blamed the officials, groundsman about the incidents in the Norwich game

I’m not sure Klopp does accept the VAR decisions when I see his disbelieving and mocking expressions on the touchline and his little words in the ear of the fourth official.

He may not be doing it officially but in those moments when he knows the camera is on him he is doing enough to let everybody know what he thinks.

He did not blame the officials for the penalties.
He blamed the official for not sending someone off when he should have done.

But then every manager will complain when things go against them.

It's that Klopp's platform is magnified and his overblown reputation as a nice guy makes it more irritating to me seeing him whinging constantly.
That and the sheer number of Liverpool fans across the world, they bombard everything with.

If Klopp had accepted the decisions he wouldn't have been so petulant on the touchline, repeatedly clapping the officials and hammering them whenever he was in earshot.

If you read back the discussion between us you will find that you now agree with my initial post about rose tinted spectacles and Klop being high profile so it being highlighted.
enjoy your Sunday dinner👍

I do not.

I am sick of hearing the Liverpool manager, players and fans whinging.
There is nothing rose tinted about that.
They are whinging a lot.

Not once did I say that it's only Liverpool that whinge.

Not once did I accuse you of saying it’s only Liverpool that Whinge.

if we weren’t all rose tinted then it would make the various football discussions boring.

We just all tend to see no wrong in our own clubs actions but lots of issues with every other clubs actions.
