Vaping

A woman I worked with on Saturday on the door, out of 7 hours, she spent most of it vaping. I think refilled the vape 3 times. She spent alot of the time coughing, but it didn't sound like a normal cough, it was like a marble in a tin can. Is vaping really healthier than cigarettes? Do you vape, is it more addictive than cigarettes?

The reality is no one knows as it’s still too early to tell what long term effects will be, but you have hit on it’s biggest flaw in that unlike cigarettes that are expensive and finite vapes are almost unlimited and the amount of exposure people have is far far greater than they would with a finite source.

So it’s clear that it’s a ticking time bomb.

NHS england don't agree that vaping is a ticking time bomb. They described it as the most significant health benefit in decades.

Whether it is bad for you or not, and I suspect it probably is, it is much less damaging than cigarettes.

We give methadone for heroin but I wouldn’t take that either.

If any vaper takes a drag off a cigarette as often as they vape they would be far worse off both financially and in health. The complications from vaping come from very heavy use, especially at a young age. We don’t have enough info to be certain about the long term issues from vaping yet but it’s already fairly clear that it’s much better than smoking.

Are you comparing smoking cigarettes to being a heroin addict?
No I’m saying the cure is sometimes just a bad as the disease. As yes vaping is prob better than the alternative but it doesn’t mean it’s safe.

The youth culture around it was all but non existent with traditional cigarettes but now vaping is seen as cool and acceptable now.

But as I say long term no one really knows.

Bit of a stretch to call it a health benefit

Stopped smoking cigarettes about four years ago at the age 50 and took up vaping instead. When I smoked I couldn’t run 50 yards to catch bus. Since vaping I’ve ran four half marathons and doing full one in April. Couldn’t say if vaping is harmful or not! Regarding my health and fitness is on higher level for my age. That would have never happened if I was still smoker. I would say that ticking time bombs is people who are overweight and obese.

But you wanted to quit smoking but are you wanting to quit vaping or is this now just the norm.

As vaping was supposed to be way to quit smoking an exit drug but it seems to have replaced it. With no exit strategy in mind.

Vapes should only be sold in chemist age restricted and by prescriptions and come in 2 flavours regular and mint end of like we see in other countries

Vaping was never a cessation device, although may have been marketed as one. The benefit is it contains no poison other than nicotine, which when inhaled is relatively harmless Contrast with a cigarette which has 250 chemicals which are known to be harmful and over 7,000 chemicals which we don't understand the impacts on health.

Not sure why this conversation comes up regularly. Vaping doesn't even come close to being as harmful as cigarettes, not even close and there is nothing clear about calling them ticking time bombs.

There may be an argument to be had about them being marketted at children, and that I would agree with. That, however should be dealt with by legislation and it aint difficult, if there were a will to do it.

Why?

I'm going to take a guess. You don't like people vaping.
You are not concerned with peoples health you just don't like people vaping therefore you want to see it restricted/banned.
